[6] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Ad-Dardaa [may Allah be pleased with him] reported: I heard Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] say, “Whoever treads a path due to which he seeks knowledge, Allah will make him tread one of the paths towards Paradise. And the angels lower their wings out of contentment for the seeker of knowledge. And verily all those in the heavens and in the earth, even the fish in the depths of the sea ask forgiveness for the scholar. And verily, the virtue of the scholar over the worshipper is like the virtue of the full moon (of the 13th, 14th and 15th of the month) over all of the stars. Indeed, the scholars are the inheritors of the prophets because the prophets do not leave behind a dinar or a dirham as inheritance, but rather, they leave behind knowledge. So whoever takes hold of it, has acquired a large share”. (1)

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by death of the (upright) religious scholars till none of the scholars remains alive. Then the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders, who, when asked to deliver religious verdicts, will issue them without knowledge, the result being that they will go astray and will lead others astray”. (2)

Al-Haafidh Al-Qurtubiy [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated in Al-Mufhim, “This text (demonstrates) that the disappearance of knowledge will occur not through its removal from the hearts of the people, but rather through the death of the scholars. (then) the ignoramuses will remain- those who will take the place of the scholars in the (field) of judgements and teaching. They will teach and pass judgement based on their ignorance, causing ignorance to spread and become evident”. So, if the authentic Sunni knowledge is taken away, acting on it is also taken away, isn’t it?! When ignorance manifests, acting upon it becomes manifest; so, both knowledge and acting upon (Knowledge) will disappear, ignorance will manifest, and acting upon (ignorance) will become prevalent, as Al-Haafidh Al-Qurtubi [may Allah have mercy upon him] clarified in Al-Mufhim. (3)

First, this demonstrates the great station of sound Prophetic knowledge and its possessors; however, Ed desperately sought to elevate the status of a so-called Noble Peace Prize winner while demeaning Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan, one of the Senior erudite scholars of this Ummah in our era, out of a desire for recognition. Indeed, regarding some of the evil outcomes of seeking leadership, recognition, and fame, Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “This pursuit of leadership results in corruption, which none other than Allah can describe, including rebellion, envy, transgression, enmity, oppression, trials, being ardent in self-defense at the expense of violating the rights of Allah, exalting those who are despised by Allah, and demeaning those who are honoured by Allah”. (4)

This is precisely what Ed did when he displayed his reprehensible ignorance, unleashed his slanders against one of the noble elder Salafi scholars of the Ummah, and speculated on the topic of slavery in Islam while desperately trying to elevate the status of a so-called noble peace prize winner based on falsehood, flattery, and a desire to spread the false information that he considered knowledge – an attempt to elevate the inhabitants of the transient Dunyah and degrade the callers to the authentic Sunnah. We ask Allah

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return, and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [5] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الْآيَاتِ وَلِتَسْتَبِينَ سَبِيلُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

And thus do We explain the signs (to you O Muḥammad) in detail, and so that the way of the criminals may become evident (to you). [Surah Al-An’aam. Ayah 55]

After speaking about the Prophet’s companions and their in-depth knowledge of truth and falsehood, Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] added: “Among those who succeeded the Prophet’s companions are those who are raised in Islam but do not know what opposes it. As a result, some of the details of the believers’ path and that of the criminals (i.e. the unbelievers) are perplexing to him because confusion occurs as a result of a lack of understanding about both paths or one of them, as Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab [may Allah be pleased with him] stated, ‘The bonds of Islam will be undone one after the other when a people are raised in Islam but do not know what pre-Islamic ignorance is’. And there’s the person who isn’t familiar with the criminals’ path and hasn’t had it clarified for him, or he has uncertainties and hence thinks that some of their practices (beliefs, methodologies, etc) are part of the practises of believers. This has occurred in this Ummah in many matters of creed, knowledge, and deeds concerning the path of the criminals, disbelievers, and enemies of the Messengers, that was brought into the path of the believers by one who does not know the (detailed distinction between) the path of the believers and the path of the criminals. [An Excerpt from ‘Al-Fawaa’d pages 167-180. Slightly paraphrased]

First, the above insightful statement by Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim reveals an affair concerning Ed Husain because, having been previously shackled by the Kharijite methodology of Hizb Tahreer and now under the shackles of philosophy, sophistry, and rhetoric, he failed to differentiate between the facts that distinguished slavery in Islam from other paths, as well as what Islam requires as opposed to individual violations of its commands and prohibitions. In a piece for the independent newspaper, Ed wrote in October 2011: “For the Nobel Prize-winning novelist Wole Soyinka, the unwillingness to confront Arab racism is rooted in the role of Arabs in the slave trade. “Arabs and Islam are guilty of the cultural and spiritual savaging of the Continent,” he writes. The Ethiopian academic Mekuria Bulcha estimates that Arab traders sold 17 million Africans to the Middle East and Asia between the sixth and twentieth centuries. Yet, there is an almost total reluctance on the part of Arab intellectuals to examine their central role in slavery, past or present. Any attempt to confront persistent Arab racism is shouted down by appeals to Arab/African solidarity against the neo-colonialist West, a sentiment that seldom moves beyond slogans. Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan, a member of the senior council of Wahhabi clerics responsible for writing Saudi school textbooks, states: “Slavery is part of Islam. Slavery is part of jihad and jihad will remain as long as there is Islam. It has not been abolished”. [End of quote]

Indeed, Ed is exactly what Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim stated, “Among those who succeeded the Prophet’s companions are those who were raised in Islam but do not know what opposes it. As a result, some of the details of the believers’ path and that of the criminals (i.e. the unbelievers) were perplexing to him because confusion occurs as a result of a lack of understanding about both paths or one of them, as Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab [may Allah be pleased with him] stated, “The bonds of Islam will be undone one after the other when a people who grow up in Islam but do not know what pre-Islamic ignorance is”. What Ed [may Allah guide him] failed to explain about slavery, Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allah preserve him] has beautifully detailed and delineated on these two links: https://video.link/w/Qbaub https://video.link/w/lUZtb

Indeed, after hearing the above clarification from Shaikh Abu Khadeejah, one realises the dishonesty and ignorance of Ed Husain and those of his ilk among the pretenders in this subject matter.

Second, Ed’s description of Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan [may Allah preserve him] as “a member of the senior council of Wahhabi clerics” demonstrates another affair regarding his ignorance. See the website regarding the myth surrounding the name “Wahhaabi” by Shaikh Abu Iyaad [may Allah preserve him] http://www.wahhabis.com/authors/Abu.Iyaad.cfm

Indeed, given that Ed Husain’s path is founded upon bidah, philosophy, sophistry, rhetoric, and the flattery of secularists, it is not surprising that he attempted to unjustly disparage one of the upright scholars of our time. Imam Ibn Asaakir [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “Know O, my brother! May Allaah grant us and you His Pleasure and make us from those who have awe and fear of Him as He should be feared. Indeed, the flesh of the scholars is poisonous (i.e. backbiting them) and Allaah’s way of disclosing the hidden affairs of those who diminish their worth is well known”. [Tabyeen Kadhib Al-Muftaree Fee Maa Nusiba Ilal-Imaam Abil Hasan Al-Ash’aree: page 29]

Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “All praise and thanks be to Allah – Who, in every era and interval between the Prophets- raises a group from the people of Knowledge, who call the misguided to guidance, patiently bearing ill-treatment and harm. With the Book of Allah, they give life to the dead [i.e. hearts killed by misguidance, etc] and through Allah’s Light [i.e. guidance] they give sight [i.e. guidance] to the blind. How many a person killed by Iblees [i.e. misguided] have they revived?! How many deviated people and wandering have they guided?! How beautiful their effect has been on the people and how vile people have been towards them! They expel from the Book of Allaah the alterations of those going beyond bounds, the false claims of the liars, and the false interpretations of the ignorant ones – those who uphold the banner of Bidah and unleash trials and discord, differing about the Book [i.e. The Qur’aan], opposing the Book and agree upon opposing the Book. They speak about Allaah and His Book without knowledge, argue about what is ambiguous in the Book, and deceive the ignorant masses with such ambiguities. We seek refuge in Allah from the trials of the misguided ones”. [Ar-Radd ‘alal-Jahmiyyah. page 2]

[4] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَآ أَتَوا۟ وَّيُحِبُّونَ أَن يُحْمَدُوا۟ بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا۟ فَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّهُم بِمَفَازَةٍ مِّنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Think not that those who rejoice in what they have done (or brought about), and love to be praised for what they have not done,- think not you that they are rescued from the torment, and for them is a painful torment. [Surah Al-Imran. Ayah 188]

Imaam As-Sadi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “They want to be commended for what they haven’t done and what they haven’t said, so they combine between evil conduct and its utterance and revel in it. And they love being applauded for something they haven’t done”. (1)

Ed Husain said, ”Free speech is not a Western concept: it is a universal craving of the human soul”. [End of quote]

True, everyone would want to be able to talk, but our Lord warned us about the perils and terrible consequences of an unbridled soul and tongue. Ed desperately attempted to pervert an authentic hadith in order to satisfy his burning desire to advance freedom of speech outside the purview of Shariah, a freedom of expression that would allow him to spread his dubious beliefs in the name of Islam. However, before we cite the hadith that Ed tried to twist for his own purposes, it’s important to note that he is guilty of double standards because he uses freedom of speech to spread his errors while criticising the members of his former group, Hizb Tahreer, when they do the same. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

أَتَأۡمُرُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ بِٱلۡبِرِّ وَتَنسَوۡنَ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ تَتۡلُونَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ‌ۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ

Enjoin you Al-Birr (piety and righteousness and each and every act of obedience to Allah) on the people and you forget (to practise it) yourselves, while you recite the Scripture! Have you then no sense?] [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 44]

While desperately seeking to misinterpret the hadith in order to forward his dishonest pursuit of free speech, Ed said: “Muslim civilisations, too, were once confident in this freedom. The Prophet’s wife, Ayesha, would say to him ‘How convenient that your God reveals verses that satisfy your desires.’ Nasredin Hodja, a Muslim satirist entertained generations of people with his books of jokes and caricatures. For centuries, the Sufis mocked orthodox believers and their rituals. Blessed was blasphemy. We Muslims again need to learn to joke, to laugh more and accept that in the West, since the times of the ancient Greeks, mockery and theatre have been the norm. Islamists cannot and must not destroy this inheritance”. [End of quote]

Observations

“Muslim civilisations, too, were once confident in this freedom. The Prophet’s wife, Ayesha, would say to him ‘How convenient that your God reveals verses that satisfy your desires'”.

Following is the hadeeth from which Ed quoted in order to support his perverse defence of corrupt free speech: Ed quoted the hadith as follows: “Aa’Isha [may Allaah be pleased with her] said to the Prophet, ‘How convenient that your God reveals verses that satisfy your desires'”.  Arabic text as follows: [ما أرى ربك إلا يسارع في هواك – I feel that your Lord hastens in fulfilling your desires]. [Sahih Al-Bukhari. Number 4788]

First of all, depending on the context, the word “Hawaa – desire” can be used to describe behaviour that is commendable or reproachable. Here is an illustration of the word used as a reprimand in Allah’s statement:

وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ اتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ بِغَيْرِ هُدًى مِنَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ

And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allah? Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. [Surah Al-Qasas. Ayah 50]

The word “Hawaa” (desires) is given a blameworthy meaning in the above verse because it is associated with the person who follows his desires without guidance from Allah.

Second, the following text provides an illustration of the word’s commendable meaning: After the battle of Badr, the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] consulted both AbuBakr and Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] regarding the prisoners of war, so Umar suggested that they should be executed, but Abu Bakr suggested that they should be set free after a ransom is taken on their behalf. Umar said:

[ فَهَوِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَا قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَلَمْ يَهْوَ مَا قُلْتُ – Allaah’s Messenger هَوِيَ – (with a Kasra on the letter Waw; meaning, the Prophet loved, approved Abu Bakr’s view and held it to be the best thing to do)] (2), and did not approve (or incline towards what I said). Therefore, “Hawaa” is used in a commendable manner in this hadeeth because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) never tends to anything unworthy of praise.

As for the meaning of the hadeeth in Al-Bukhaari Number 4788 [ما أرى ربك إلا يسارع في هواك – I feel that your Lord hastens in fulfilling your wishes and desires], Imaam An-Nawawi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said that this hadith means: “Your Lord has made things easy for you and given you a lot of leeway in your affairs”. (3) Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said that this hadith means: “Without delay, Allah fulfils what you want and reveals what you love and choose”. (4)

And moreover, Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰٓ
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡىٌ۬ يُوحَىٰ

By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). Your companion (Muhammad) has neither gone astray nor has erred. Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. [Surah An-Najm. Ayaat 1-4]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: “Allah [The Exalted] revealed that Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is neither misguided nor ignorant, neither is he astray nor does he follow his desires, nor does he speak according to his desires but rather according to the revelation that has been sent down”. (5)

There is no ambiguity, speculation, or guesswork because this is the hadeeth’s clear meaning. The hadith’s use of the word “Hawaa” refers to an inclination towards something honourable rather than a desire for something that is blameworthy. But Ed fervently used this hadith to promote satire and corrupt free speech. Al-Allaamah Saalih Al Fawzaan cautioned us against this attitude, saying, “Transmitting forged and false reports while attributing them to the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] is not permitted. This is due to the fact that many misguided people and followers of desires fabricate narrations, use them as evidence, and declare them authentic when they line up with their desires. As for when the authentic narrations conflict with their wishes, they either deny them or alter and explain them (in a way different from what is meant by) correct meanings. This is the situation of the proponents of misguidance; they look for fabricated and false narrations, offer them to the people, and use them as evidence if it supports their desires. Similarly, one of the traits of a hypocrite is that he lies when he speaks, so refrain from speaking to the people unless you are truthful, and avoid using the ahaadeeth excessively in situations where there is no benefit out of fear that you would start telling lies. The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, ‘It is enough lying for a man to speak of everything that he hears'”. (6)

Then Ed Husain stated: “Nasredin Hodja, a Muslim satirist entertained generations of people with his books of jokes and caricatures.

Whatever a person does to entertain the public, it cannot contradict the divine revelation found in the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah. A joke is acceptable as long as it does not make fun of the religion or an authentic act of worship carried out by a Muslim. That’s because a joke of this nature amounts to major disbelief.

If you ask them (about this), they declare: “We were only talking idly and joking.” Say: “Was it at Allah, and His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking?” Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayah 65]

Imam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: “The affairs related to Divine Lordship, Prophethood, Revelation, and the religion are sacred and are to be venerated. It is impermissible to disrespect them, either by mocking them to make others laugh or to make fun of them. If anyone does that, he is an unbeliever because this shows his disrespect towards Allaah and His Messengers, the Books, and Divine Laws. Whoever does this must repent to Allaah because it is a type of hypocrisy. Therefore, the person must repent to Allaah, seek forgiveness, change his behaviour, nurture fear of Allaah [in his heart], venerate Allaah, and have a love for Allaah in his heart”.  (7)

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Woe to the one who speaks to make people laugh and lies, woe to him, woe to him”. (8)

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “A man may say something to make his companions laugh, and he will fall into Hell as far as the Pleiades because of it”. (9)

As for Ed Husain’s statement,  “Blessed was blasphemy”. The word blessed used in this context can either mean pleasure or relief as a welcome contrast to what one has previously experienced, or it is used in mild expressions of annoyance or exasperation – emphasizing that you are annoyed about something. Indeed, regardless of the meaning intended by Ed Husain, he is reminded that the Muslim does not utilise freedom of speech to utter disbelief, sin, or transgression.

As for Ed Husain’s statement: “We Muslims again need to learn to joke, to laugh more and accept that in the West, since the times of the ancient Greeks,  and mockery and theatre have been the norm”. [End of quote]

Indeed, because Allah’s Messenger is the only person who has lived a faultless life in all respects, a sensible Muslim makes an effort to emulate his example. We make jokes and laugh in accordance with the divine revelation, and we pay no attention to Ed Husain’s absurd recommendations. If satire was common, then it would also be common among the Prophets of Allah and their upright followers. We are commanded to follow the upright path rather than that taken by terrorists like ISIS or those who have engaged in excessive neglect like Ed Husain. Sufyan Ibn Uyaynah [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “Indeed, the Messenger is the highest criterion (amongst humans and Jinn), and all affairs are given to him (i.e. for judgment and judged) based on his manners, way, and guidance; so, whatever agrees with this is truth, and whatever disagrees is falsehood”. [3] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Exalted] stated about the hypocrites:

The hypocrites, men, and women, are from one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief and polytheism of all kinds and all that Islam has forbidden), and forbid (people) from Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do), and they close their hands [from giving (spending in Allah’s Cause) alms, etc.]. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them. Verily, the hypocrites are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). Allah has promised the hypocrites; men and women, and the disbelievers, the Fire of Hell, therein shall they abide. It will suffice them. Allah has cursed them and for them is the lasting torment. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayaat 67-68]

Allah [The Exalted] stated about the believers:

The believers, men, and women are Auliya’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); they perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give the Zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. Allah has promised to the believers -men and women, – Gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein forever, and beautiful mansions in Gardens of ‘Adn (Eden Paradise). But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of Allah. That is the supreme success. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayaat 71-72]

Ed Husain stated, “The only people to blame for rape are rapists. A woman should be allowed to walk naked if she chooses”. Indeed, Ed Husain is bereft of the robust and beautiful clarification passed down from the upright and devout leaders of the Ummah, rather, he has disregarded the Messenger’s hadith by openly condoning evil. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said: “Verily, among the statements people obtained from the Prophets, is that: If you feel no shame, do as you wish”. [Ṣaḥeeh Al-Bukhaaree 3483]

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-Uthaymeen [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: The meaning of the Prophet’s statement, “If you have no shame, then do as you please” has two interpretations: one of them is that you shouldn’t do anything—whether it has to do with Shariah or custom —if it will make you feel ashamed of yourself. If you want to carry out a deed, consider whether you would be ashamed of it in light of Shariah or custom, (I) then don’t do it. If it is something you don’t feel ashamed of in light of Shariah or custom, then do it. The second interpretation is that a man without shame will do whatever he wants and doesn’t give a damn. As a result, you can find a person without shame doing things that other people blame him for, and he doesn’t give a damn about other people blaming him because he has no sense of shame. These two interpretations are both correct. [paraphrased] (1)

Unquestionably, no matter how nude a woman is, a man can never justify raping her; however, publicly supporting the idea that a woman should be permitted to be nude is a crime in the Sight of Allah. Indeed, we do have the ability to openly declare that Islam condemns it or, at the very least, to despise it in our hearts, despite the fact that none of us has the power to put an end to this evil. However, Ed Husain openly declares that a woman should be permitted to be naked. Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allaah preserve him] said, “It has been reported in an authentic hadeeth -in Saheeh Al Bukhaari and Saheeh Muslim- that ‘A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into the Fire, then his intestines will spill forth in the Fire and he will go around it as a donkey goes around a millstone. The people of Hell will gather around him and will say: O So and so! What is the matter with you; did you not use to enjoin good and forbid evil? He will say: Yes, I used to enjoin good, but did not do it; and I used to forbid evil and did it [i.e. commit the evil I used to forbid’. [Al-Bukhaari 3267 & Muslim 2989]

Indeed, there might be someone worse than this man because he (i.e. the person worse than the man mentioned in this Hadeeth) encourages evil and forbids good, so what would be his situation?! (1.1)

Indeed, the former Hizb Tahreer zealot Ed Husain has transformed into a goon for the secularists to the point where he has come to endorse egregious evil in this modesty-related affair. Ed is also reminded that Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Some women are clothed but naked, inclining to evil and seducing with it. They will not enter Paradise, nor smell its fragrance, even though it can be found from a distance of five hundred years of travel”. (2)

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, This has been explained to mean that they will wear short clothes that don’t cover the areas of the body one is required to cover [i.e., a woman’s complete body is to be covered aside from the face and hands]. It has been explained that this means they would dress in revealing attire that allows others to glimpse the woman’s skin. And it has been explained that it means they will wear tight clothes that cover the body but reveals the parts that lead to temptation through women. (3)

In reference to the statement, “They will not enter Paradise, nor smell its fragrance, even though it can be found from a distance of five hundred years of travel”, Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The sinners [i.e. those who die whilst committing sins lesser than Shirk] are under the will of Allaah. If Allah so wishes, He may immediately punish them, pardon them, or enters them into hell for some time and paradise thereafter, just as Allaah said:

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ

Indeed, Allāh does not forgive that partners are set up for Him (and worshipped alongside Him, the gravest of sins) but He forgives whatever is less than that of (all types of sin) for whomever He wills. (4)

Footnote I: Customs: Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: Every Muslim has a duty to not rely on custom but rather to bring their actions for judgment in accordance with the pure Shariah. Accordingly, whatever the Shariah affirms is lawful, and everything it does not affirm is forbidden. People’s customs are not a valid way to judge if something is lawful (in the Sight of Allah). Whatever Allah and His Messenger made permissible is permissible, and whatever they forbid, then it is obligatory to abandon it even if it is a common practise among the people. All the customs of the people in their countries or tribes must be brought before Allah’s Book and His Messenger’s Sunnah for judgement. [Majmoo Al-Fataawas 6/510]

[2] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

Never did We send a Messenger or a Prophet before you, but; when he did recite the revelation or narrated or spoke, Shaitan (Satan) threw (some falsehood) in it. But Allah abolishes that which Shaitan (Satan) throws in. Then Allah establishes His Revelations. And Allah is All-Knower, All-Wise: [Surah al-Hajj. Aayah 52]

Ed Husain uttered the phrase “Private faith and secular government” after referring to a taxi driver who was observed praying in public. However, if not specifically and clearly stated, this generalisation could be interpreted incorrectly. First of all, the taxi driver’s Sujood to Allah is praiseworthy, but more specificity is needed on the statement regarding secular government and private religion because if Ed Husain wants to laud secularism or suggests that separating religion and government is admirable, that is unquestionably a grave crime in the Sight of the Lord of the Worlds.

What is Secularism? Secularism is the belief that religion should not be involved with the ordinary social and political activities of a country. (1) Therefore, this definition establishes the idea that there should be separation between “State and Religion” or between “Siyaasah and Religion”. What is Siyaasah? It refers to governing citizen issues. It has control over both the behaviours of the individual and the entire society. It involves Islamic jurisprudence through which the rulers are provided with knowledge and comprehension of the laws connected to managing the affairs of the state, its structures, and Shariah principles. (2)

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: The idea behind the phrase “Separation between religion and Siyaasah” is that the ruler is free to act however he sees fit in order to carry out his duties, regardless of whether his actions are in accordance with Shariah or not; or even if what he does is dictated by the religion, as the purpose of separation is to distinguish between and define two things. Because of this, even if it conflicts with Shariah, the ruler considers what he perceives to be advantageous. This is unquestionably a false and sinful statement because the religion itself is Siyaasah and Siyaasah is the religion. However, when we use the term Siyaasah, we refer to Siyaasah that is founded on equity rather than oppression (i.e. under the jurisdiction of the infallible Shariah).

Islam’s goal is to rectify people’s relationships with one another and their behaviours towards their Lord. It establishes the rights of Allah and the people, as well as rights for wives, parents, and other relatives. Islam even granted non-Muslims rights that are well-known among scholars. It outlined the terms and procedures for making peace and waging war, as well as the penalties for crimes, some of which are governed by specific texts and others by the ruler’s discretion. This plainly demonstrates that Islam is Siyaasah in its totality. The word “Siyaasah” derives from the word “Saa’is,” which refers to the person who is in charge of taking care of an animal’s needs and warding off threats to their wellbeing. We discover this meaning when we reflect on affairs of the religion of Islam, and that Allah has prescribed for His servants those things without which people cannot establish (a fruitful, stable, orderly, safe) life, and has forbidden those things that will corrupt their state of affairs, whether they affect everyone or just certain people. Consequently, Siyaasah constitutes the entirety of the religion. And we are certain that anyone who isolates Siyaasah from the Religion and builds Siyaasah on what he deems appropriate and what he forbids, then his Siyaasah is undoubtedly corrupt and it will do more harm than good. If it rectifies a matter in accordance with his constrained opinions, it will undoubtedly corrupt things significantly from a different perspective.

This makes it necessary for one to reflect on the situation of those who base their Siyaasah on their desires and opinions and distanced themselves from the religion of Islam. After reflecting, one will discover that either all or most of their Siyaasah is corrupt, and that even when it corrects a situation from one angle, it corrupts it from another. Consequently, based on this, it is required of the person seeking to make amends for himself and others to only do so in accordance with the religion of Islaam. Separating Siyaasah and Religion is a wicked deed. (3)

Our Responsibilities Whilst Living in a Society That Rules By Secular Laws

Shaikh Abdul Waahid Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] said: Although Muslims in Britain are subject to British law and the British legal system, Sharī’ah tribunals are allowed in certain areas as an alternative way of resolving disputes. These are aimed at resolving commercial, civil and matrimonial disputes to the satisfaction of both sides. Sharī’ah Law is based upon the Qur’ān and Sunnah, and judgements are made in accordance to these two sources. Only those well-versed with the Religion and jurisprudence (rulings in law) are permitted to judge in Sharī’ah matters. Read more here:  https://www.abukhadeejah.com/educate-yourself-ethics-1-2-shariah-redstone-academy/

One must be fully aware of this reality and maintain a safe distance from Takfeeris and terrorists. The requirement that we protect the lives and safety of our non-Muslim neighbours and uphold our covenants must be given special consideration. Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated: Likewise I invite you to have respect for those people who have the right that they should be respected, from those between you and whom there is an agreement (of protection) [i.e. Non-Muslims]. For the land which you are living is such that there is an agreement between you and them. If this were not the case they would have killed you or expelled you. So preserve this agreement, and do not prove treacherous to it, since treachery is a sign of the hypocrites, and it is not from the way of the Believers.

And know that it is authentically reported from the Prophet that he said : “Whoever kills one who is under an agreement of protection will not smell the fragrance of Paradise.”

Do not be fooled by those sayings of the foolish people: those who say: ‘Those people are Non-Muslims, so their wealth is lawful for us [i.e. to misappropriate or take by way of murder and killing].’ For by Allah – this is a lie. A lie about Allaah’s Religion, and a lie in Islamic societies.

O my brothers. O youth. O Muslims. Be truthful in your buying and selling, and renting, and leasing, and in all mutual transactions. Because truthfulness is from the characteristics of the Believers, and Allah – the Most High – has commanded truthfulness – in the saying of Allah – the Most High – “O you who believe – fear and keep you duty to Allah and be with the truthful.”

And the Prophet encouraged truthfulness and said : “Adhere to truthfulness, because truthfulness leads to goodness, and goodness leads to Paradise; and a person will continue to be truthful, and strive to be truthful until he will be written down with Allah as a truthful person“.

And he warned against falsehood, and said : “Beware of falsehood, because falsehood leads to wickedness, and wickedness leads to the Fire. And a person will continue lying, and striving to lie until he is written down with Allah as a great liar.”

O my brother Muslims. O youth. Be true in your sayings with your brothers, and with those Non-Muslims whom you live along with – so that you will be inviters to the Religion of Islam, by your actions and in reality. So how many people there are who first entered into Islam because of the behaviour and manners of the Muslims, and their truthfulness, and their being true in their dealings. (4)

Indeed, either Ed Husain lacks the ability to provide specifics or he consciously wants to spread ambiguity. In fact, his quest for so-called moderation after leaving his prior misguided sect (Hizb tahreer) has lead him to even more misguidance rather than any benefit from his remarks. He must refrain from speaking.

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “It is obligated to you to provide specifics and draw distinctions since vague, unclarified (statements) have in fact corrupted this existence (i.e. the world) and led people’s minds and worldviews astray in every era”. Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan [may Allah preserve him] said: “The person who lacks the ability to provide specifics should keep quiet because his speech does not yield any benefit. And every time a mistake occurs, it is the result of a lack of a thorough explanation of what is true and what is untrue. Detailed explanation and distinction must be made in order to avoid confusion. Indeed, it may be that an opponent’s statement contains both truth and falsehood, therefore it can’t be assumed that it’s entirely true or false; instead, there needs to be a distinction made between its truth and falsehood. The entirety of it is neither rejected nor accepted; rather, a distinction is established between the truth and the right and the false and error in it. Furthermore, you shouldn’t enter in this affair if you are not good at providing details”. (5)

[1] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful.

Allah [The Exalted] said:

وَلَا تَرْكَنُوا إِلَى الَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا فَتَمَسَّكُمُ النَّارُ وَمَا لَكُم مِّن دُونِ اللَّهِ مِنْ أَوْلِيَاءَ ثُمَّ لَا تُنصَرُونَ

And incline not toward those who do wrong, lest the Fire should touch you, and you have no protectors other than Allah, nor you would then be helped. (Hud: 113)

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] said: Do not incline towards those who oppress the people through murder, bloodshed, theft, and violating their honour; or oppress people in religious affairs through innovated religious practices and other forms of misguidance, as well as through calls that are anti-Islamic and dangerous propaganda. Do not incline towards anyone who fits this description. Don’t support him or help him spread his falsehood. This verse includes all of these types (of oppressors) and all advocates of religious innovation. [An Excerpt from Al-Wasaayaa Al-Manhajiyyah Page 20]

In spite of the fact that Ed Husain claims to be battling extremism and deradicalising extremists in the name of Islam, his words and convictions make it quite evident that he is actually using this fight against extremism as a cover to promote heretical philosophical paths. There is no question that a person who chooses such a course will retain animosity against those who adhere to the sound Salafi Methodology. He jumped from the frying pan and leaped into the fire; he was opposed to Salafiyyah while he was associated with the Khaarijites of Hizb at-Tahreer, and he is now opposed to Salafiyyah while associated with philosophers. In one of his replies to extremists, he said, “There are many such lessons of compassion, kindness, and care in the life of the Prophet that are airbrushed by today’s fanatics. The bigotry of the Salafi jihadis can only be challenged and eventually uprooted by educating them on the Prophet of Islam described in the Qur’an “as a mercy to the worlds”. Many in the world today would be rightly asking “Where is this mercy?” For what we see is beheadings, wars, and suicide bombings in the name of religion. Sadly, we will continue to witness such evil unless we address the motivations of the Salafi jihadist killers. They kill in the name of religion; we cannot respond by citing the virtues of Darwin, secularism, and materialism. The only language these radicals understand is that of religion. It is by mustering the best of religion that we defeat the worst of It”. [End of quote]

By claiming that there is a group that should be classified as “Salafi Jihadists” in the aforementioned statement, he attempts to misrepresent Salafiyyah. Given that the Salafi Methodology is free of the Bidah and destructive methodologies of the Jihadists and all other proponents of Bidah, including Ed Husain and his associates, this is a very serious accusation. Read the article titled “A response to Western academics who categorise Salafis into Quietists, Politicos, and Jihadists – and why this is a false categorisation” by Shaikh Abu Khadeeja- May Allah preserve him. https://abukhadeejah.com/a-response-to-western-academics-who-categorise-salafis-into-quietists-politicos-and-jihadists-and-why-this-is-a-false-categorisation/

Also, see the article titled “Salafi Shaikh Fawzaan on Jihad in our times and the guidelines of Jihad according to Islam”:https://abukhadeejah.com/salafi-shaikh-fawzaan-on-jihaad-in-our-times-and-the-guidelines-of-jihaad-according-to-islam/

Ed currently favours philosophy, the appeal for the unity of religions and other false views. InShaaAllaah, future postings will discuss these topics. The knowledge of this man’s previous and present circumstances—from hizb tahreer to philosophy, from one bidah to another—is actually sufficient to understand his misguidance. After previously concentrating on radicalism, he is now considering extreme neglect to be moderation. Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] said: “Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allaah have mercy upon him) said that in their quest for knowledge and religion, people have two innovated paths and one that is prescribed by the Shari’ah. The path of the Shariah is to look at what the Messenger conveyed, use it as evidence, and do what it requires; consequently, knowledge based on what he brought and doing what it requires is both necessary and doing just one of these is insufficient. The Messenger clarified the sound intellectual proofs, whose bounds are set by the (infallible) divine texts, and the Messengers clarified the sound rational proofs that the people are in need of, just as Allaah presented every kind of similitude in the Qur’an, so this path is built upon sound intellectual proofs and sound rational proofs that are based on absolute certainty (in accordance with revelation as understood and implemented by the Messenger’s companions). Allah commanded His servants to ask Him to guide them to this straight path”. [end of quote] (1)

Pay special attention to what comes next since it reveals Ed Husain’s current situation, which is as follows: “Regarding the two innovated paths, one of them is that of the proponents of innovated theological speech and viewpoints, for there is undoubtedly much falsehood in this. Many of its adherents neglect the actions that Allah and His Messenger have prescribed, and as a result, their knowledge and conduct continue to be corrupt. These folks veer off into false Judaism (i.e. distorted after the departure of the Prophets)”. [End of quote] (2)

The same thing is happening to Ed Husain, who began endorsing heretical philosophers like Aristotle, Ibn Sina, Al-Faraabi, and others before finally endorsing other views that are tantamount to clear misguidance.

Let’s finish Al-Allaamah Rabee’s quote by adding the following: “The second is the path of those who use techniques for enhancing the soul, including followers of Soofi paths and new forms of worship. They err towards false Christianity because they claim that if a person cleanses his soul in accordance with what they have said, then the sciences of the religion will flow to him abundantly without learning. Many of these people’s forms of worship are innovated; rather, they contradict what the Messenger conveyed, leaving them with corrupt actions and corruption brought on by a lack of knowledge since they are ignorant of what the Messenger conveyed. Despite the fact that each group purports to be following the Messenger, these people frequently speak negatively about one another. The Messenger’s message, however, does not concur with either of their respective points of view. “Ibrahim (Abraham) was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was a true Muslim Hanifa (Islamic Monotheism – to worship none but Allah Alone) and he was not one who associated partners to Allaah in worship”. [Surah Aal Imraan. Aayah 67] Neither Allaah’s Messenger nor his companions followed the path of the people of Bidah among those who advocated for theological rhetoric and views nor did they follow the path of the people of Bidah among those who advocated for innovative worship and Soofiyyah; instead, he followed that which Allaah sent him with based on the Qur’an and Sunnah”. (3)

[Refs 1, 2 and 3: Al-Mukhtaaraat Al-Bahiyyah Min Kutub Shaikhil Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah. 290-291. Slightly paraphrased]

Eugenicists were either driven by ignorance or obstinacy in their futile quest to establish a genetically superior class

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imam As-Sadi [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated:

The greatest evils of knowledge and its inconsistencies occur as a result of acquainting oneself with the creation without its Creator, acquaintance with effects without the One who created those effects, acquaintance with causes without the One who created those causes, and acquaintance with the paths without its sound goals. The deficiency in this type of acquaintance is numerous and its harm is great, because indeed many atheists and those deceived by them are skilled in the natural sciences, but they confine themselves to it and are blind regarding its association with its Creator and Causer. And with regards to that which is placed in these natural sciences of wonders and secrets, they see themselves as those who know the wonders of the natural sciences – which none knows besides them – and the secrets which Allāh has placed in nature, so it gives them higher status over others and thus they become afflicted with vanity and self-deception. They confine themselves to it, consider it as the final outcome, the purpose, and the goal, and thus occurs great deviation, deficiency in knowledge and intellect. If they knew and affirmed belief in the true Creator and the One Who Controls all the affairs of the Universe- the One who attached the means and causes to His Qadaa Wal Qadr [Footnote a], know that the means and causes are an abode of His Perfect Wisdom – for indeed Allāh [The Most High] is All-Wise, He placed things in their rightful places, gave the subtle affairs and big affairs an amazing orderly system and a firm association; gave everything that is sought after and the goals a means or cause, and a path that will lead to it, and due to this results and outcomes are based on the strength or weakness of the means or causes, and the strength or weakness of the performer of the deed- and then they bound these means, paths and outcomes to Allāh’s Qadaa Wal Qadr, their knowledge would have been perfected and they would have acquired of certainty that which cannot be acquired by those who have not reached their level; but they are glad (and proud) with that which they know of those paths whose tangible worldly outcomes they know and became haughty by way of them, so the statement of Allāh [The Most High] apply to them: [فلما جاءتهم رسلهم بالبينات فرحوا بما عندهم من العلم وحاق بهم ما كانوا به يستهزئون – Then when their Messengers came to them with clear proofs, they were glad (and proud) with that which they had of the knowledge (of worldly things): And that at which they used to mock, surrounded them (i.e. the punishment)]. [Surah Ghaafir. Aayah 83]

Allāh says:

And indeed We had firmly established them with that wherewith We have not established you! And We had assigned them the (faculties of) hearing (ears), seeing (eyes), and hearts, but their hearing (ears), seeing (eyes), and their hearts availed them nothing since they used to deny the Ayat (Allah’s Prophets and their Prophethood, proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, and they were completely encircled by that which they used to mock at! [Surah Al-Ahqaaf. Ayah 26]

This is the greatest evil consequence of self-amazement and arrogance without exception, and the most perilous path through which many people become beguiled and deceived; therefore we ask Allāh to blessed us with sound knowledge that is supported by sound intellect, divine text and sound natural disposition – the beneficial knowledge which the servant knows in all its aspects, and the knowledge which links the subsidiary affairs to its (sound) fundamental principles, and its means, causes, effects and outcomes are ascribed to the One Who originated and created them. It is the knowledge whose possessor does not disassociate the creation from its Creator- neither disassociates its effects from the One Who made them effective, nor disassociates the wisdom, the secrets and the amazing orderly systems in the creation from the One Who Created and Perfected them, organised them in perfect order and brought them into existence prior to their non-existence. This is the knowledge that bears the fruits of certainty and through which tranquillity is obtained, and through which happiness and success is attained. It bears the fruits of beautiful manners and righteous deeds, beneficial to the religious and worldly affairs. [1]

Indeed, every fabricated belief system attracts its group of devoted followers, radicals, and tyrants. It is not unexpected that even those who claim to be enlightened overseers or experts in various fields can engage in criminal behaviour and disruptive actions. A significant number of us, having been educated in primary and secondary schools, as well as colleges and universities, are familiar with Charles Darwin’s “Savages and Favoured Races,” which undoubtedly serves as a foundation for racial prejudice. Similarly, the path that was chosen by the arrogant and opinionated eugenicists led to an increase in oppression and crimes committed against the weak and vulnerable in society. Population eugenics involved urging individuals to procreate to produce desired traits, but the true believers in Allah and His Messengers have always distanced themselves from the hidden motives and ideas of those whose approach to sexual reproduction is solely aimed at advancing their materialistic or racist agendas – whether it is to create future workers for the communists or capitalists or to prevent other members of society from having children in the name of racial hygiene or to discourage them from doing so out of fear of poverty.

The notoriety of the haughty and opinionated eugenicists is well-known and they were those individuals who pursued a futile endeavour to establish a genetically superior class and advocated for the reproduction of solely flawless individuals, thereby marginalising anyone with even the most minor disability. The concept of “Positive eugenics” focused on promoting reproduction among individuals deemed to have so-called “good stock,” while “Negative eugenics” aimed to discourage or prevent reproduction among those considered unfit, such as the poor, criminals, or the feeble-minded. Indeed, it is undeniable that one of the factors that contributed to this inclination was either their lack of awareness regarding the well-balanced approach elucidated in the final revelation or their persistent defiance of it. So, we conclude by citing the insightful words of Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him], who emphasised the importance of achieving this balanced in all aspects of life.

He stated:

Akhlaaq [or moral character] is bounded by limits. Transgression takes place when these limits are exceeded, while deficiency and humiliation arise when one falls short.

The commendable aspects of anger lie within its boundaries of bravery and a distaste for despicable and inadequate behaviour. These boundaries represent the pinnacle of anger’s expression. However, when one surpasses these limits, they cross into transgression and oppression. Conversely, if their anger is lacking, they will exhibit cowardice and fail to abhor despicable behaviour. The scope of eagerness lies in acquiring what is necessary for one’s worldly pursuits and employing suitable means to attain them. Insufficient eagerness leads to humiliation and wastage of valuable time or opportunities while exceeding its limits breeds intense greed and unworthy desires. The boundaries of envy lie within the realm of praiseworthy competition, where individuals strive for perfection and aim to surpass another competitor. However, once these limits are exceeded, envy transforms into jealousy characterised by animosity and oppression. In such instances, the envious person desires the deprivation of blessings for the one envied and is eager to cause harm. Conversely, if one lacks (what is required of jealousy), it leads to a diminished sense of worth and a weakened drive to achieve. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “There should be no envy except in two (people); a person whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and a person whom Allah has given wisdom (i.e. religious knowledge) and he judges by way of it and teaches it to the others”. This form of envy (requires commendable) competition among individuals, and the Haasid (the one who is envious of their competitor) strives to resemble the person they envy, without (harbouring) the detestable envy (which makes one) wish that the blessings bestowed upon the envied individual should cease.

The boundaries of desires provide a means of relaxation for the heart and intellect after exerting oneself in acts of obedience and striving to accomplish virtuous deeds. However, when one exceeds these limits, it gives rise to intense and barely controllable emotions, as well as lewdness, ultimately causing the person to descend to the level of animals. On the other hand, lacking desire and not utilising it as a means to pursue perfection and virtue leads to weakness, impotence, and humiliation. The boundaries of relaxation lie in its ability to replenish one’s energy and enhance their mental capacity, thereby enabling one to carry out acts of obedience and accomplish virtuous deeds. This safeguards against the detrimental effects of exertion and exhaustion. However, when an individual exceeds these limits, it leads to a lack of enthusiasm, laziness, wastage of time and opportunities, and many beneficial endevours are missed. Conversely, insufficient relaxation hampers one’s strength and may even result in debilitation.

The boundaries of generosity are marked by two extremes, where surpassing these limits results in extravagance and wastefulness. Conversely, a deficiency in generosity leads to avarice and a reluctance to give freely. The boundaries of courage lie in the fact that exceeding them results in recklessness while lacking courage leads to cowardice and weakness. Its limit is to act when necessary and abstain when it is not. Jealousy has its limitations, as crossing them leads to false accusations and (unjustified) evil suspicions against blameless individuals. Conversely, the absence of jealousy leads to heedlessness and a lack of regard for one’s honour. When humility is exceeded, it gives way to indignity and humiliation, whereas the absence of humility gives rise to pride and boasting. There are limits to honour, and if someone exceeds those limits, it will inevitably result in pride. On the other hand, when someone lacks honour, it leads to humiliation and a loss of dignity.

Justice provides a precise balance to these affairs and requires that a person follow the path set by Islamic legislation – the path is free from both exaggeration and negligence. The foundation of all beneficial matters, whether in this worldly life or the hereafter, rests upon this; rather, physical well-being can only be achieved by adhering to it, for any disruption in the proper balance of the human body’s elements – whether due to excessive indulgence or negligence – leads to a deterioration in its health and strength, proportionate to the extent of this (imbalance). Similarly, engaging in natural activities such as sleep, staying up late at night, eating, drinking, sexual intercourse, movement, recreation, seclusion, and socialising, in a moderate manner – without excess or deficiency – is considered to be upright, appropriate, and balanced; however, when an individual veer towards either extreme, it is deemed to be a deficiency and will yield deficient outcomes. One of the noblest and most beneficial sciences is the knowledge of the boundaries (within which affairs are confined), particularly the divine limits – the commands and prohibitions (outlined in the Qur’an and Sunnah). Those who possess more understanding of these divine limits are the most learned individuals, so they neither include anything outside of these limits nor exclude anything that falls within them. Allah [The Exalted] says:

ٱلۡأَعۡرَابُ أَشَدُّ ڪُفۡرً۬ا وَنِفَاقً۬ا وَأَجۡدَرُ أَلَّا يَعۡلَمُواْ حُدُودَ مَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِهِ

The bedouins are the worst in disbelief and hypocrisy, and more likely to be in ignorance of the limits (Allah’s Commandments and His Legal Laws, etc.) which Allah has revealed to His Messenger]. [Surah At-Tawbah. Ayah 97]

Thus, the individuals who remain within the confines of the moral values and actions outlined in the Islamic legislation, both in their understanding and implementation, are the most just, balanced, and upright. [2]

Opinionated, Arrogance and Bigotry

Allah [The Exalted] said:

Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, and when they have to give by measure or weight to men, give less than due. Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), on a Great Day, the Day when (all) mankind will stand before the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists)? [Surah Al-Mutaffifeen. Ayaat 1-7]

Imam As-Sadi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: This noble verse demonstrates that just as a person takes what they are rightfully owed from others, they are also obligated to give them everything they are owed – whether it pertains to wealth or mutual dealings. Furthermore, this verse encompasses proofs and statements, as it is common for individuals engaged in arguments and discussions to strive to establish their evidence. Henceforth, it is incumbent upon a person to disclose the evidence held by the counterpart and scrutinise their evidence in the same manner as one examines their proofs. Concerning this matter, the justice of a person is known as opposed to whether he is afflicted by bigotry, his humility as opposed to haughtiness, and his common sense as opposed to foolish behaviour”. [1]

Certain individuals, particularly those in the media, undertook a campaign to intimidate and defame anyone who advocated for alternative treatments to vaccines. They also stigmatised individuals who chose to exercise their right to refuse vaccination as being self-centred. However, the following information was provided to challenge their attempt to impose their viewpoints on those who declined the opportunity for vaccination.

Some People Made an Analogy Between Drink Driving and Vaccination

Allah [The Most High] says:

[قَالَ لَهُ ۥ مُوسَىٰ هَلۡ أَتَّبِعُكَ عَلَىٰٓ أَن تُعَلِّمَنِ مِمَّا عُلِّمۡتَ رُشۡدً۬ا – Musa (Moses) said to him (Khidr): May I follow you so that you teach me something of that knowledge (guidance and true path) which you have been taught (by Allah)?]

He (Khidr) said: Verily! You will not be able to have patience with me!

And how can you have patience about a thing which you know not?] [Surah Al-Kahf]

[وَكَيۡفَ تَصۡبِرُ عَلَىٰ مَا لَمۡ تُحِطۡ بِهِۦ خُبۡرً۬ا – And how can you have patience about a thing which you know not?] Imaam As-Sadi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said about this Ayah: “From this is a command to employ careful deliberation and sound verification, and not rushing to pass judgment on a matter until what is intended by it is known and what its goal is”. [2]

Jurgen Klopp was the one who made this statement that refraining from vaccination is like drink driving! Therefore, he is reminded of the principle “Al-Hukmu Alaa Shay’in Far’un An Tasawwurihee – Passing a judgement on something is to be (firmly linked and based) on understanding the affair”. Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “You do not pass a judgement on a thing except after being completely acquainted with it so that the judgement is under what the real state of affairs is. If this is not done, then great error occurs”. [3]

Mr. Klopp should be reminded that likening individuals who opt not to receive the vaccine to drink drivers is an inaccurate and offensive comparison. It is important to note that the consumption of alcohol, regardless of whether one is driving or not, is strictly prohibited. The Creator has commanded us to abstain from anything that impairs the mind and intellect. Conversely, the acceptance of a particular medication is a recommendation. Read:

https://www.abukhadeejah.com/taking-medicine-is-recommended-in-islam-for-the-one-who-is-sickbut-it-is-not-obligatory/

As for Tony Blaire, he added insult to injury saying that those who refrain from vaccination are idiots! We remind him that the poet said: “The foolish addressed me with every repugnant trait, but I hated to respond to him. He increased in foolishness and I increased in forbearance just as burning increases Oud in good smell”. Indeed, many individuals -Muslims and non-Muslims – have failed to apologise for their misconduct during the lockdowns, despite the evident harm caused by the vaccines to many individuals. Therefore, let us take a moment to reflect on the teachings of the Hadith “The believer does not get stung in the same hole twice”. Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “The meaning behind this statement is that it is obligated to the believers to be cautious if they have been harmed by a person. If Zayd once deceived him, they must exercise caution to prevent Zayd from deceiving them again. Similarly, if Amr committed an injustice in a previous mutual transaction, they must exercise caution in future mutual dealings. This is the essence of the matter, as they should prevent the harm caused by those who have deceived or harmed them before”. [4]

Take heed! Presently, eugenicists use the slogan “Smaller Families Means Better Quality of Life” to mask their true intentions

They confine themselves to it, consider it as the final outcome, the purpose and the goal, and thus occurs great deviation, deficiency in knowledge and intellect.

Likewise, the path that was chosen by the arrogant and opinionated eugenicists led to an increase in oppression and crimes committed against the weak and vulnerable in society. Shaikh Abdul Waahid Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] said, “According to scientists, another cause of poverty is population growth in countries that cannot afford to feed the extra mouths. Most rich countries have a stable population with roughly as many babies born as people dying. However, in poor countries, the populations seem to be increasing. Muslims, as a rule, are not allowed to use contraception due to fear of not being able to provide for their children – they learn from the Quran that Allah will enrich them from Himself from the ways and means that He provides. Population control measures are not from the Islamically legislated means to remove poverty – this is proven by the fact that there is sufficient food and resources in the world to feed the poor many times over daily! Added to that is the reality that large populations are a tremendous resource for a nation. Countries with large populations are quite often the wealthiest and have the fastest-growing economies. Note: In certain situations, contraception is permitted and I have discussed that elsewhere. Islam teaches that poor people must be helped with education, skills, charity, better infrastructure, and better health care. In this way the poor are not neglected and the wealth of the rich is purified in the sight of Allāh through the giving of charity. People have large families because the family unit helps each other and they care for their elders. Death of young children is much higher in poorer countries due to sicknesses and disease. So, Muslims have to help the poor, even if they are non-Muslims. The Prophet said, ‘Give charity to people of other Religions'” (Shaikh Al-Albānī said it was an authentic Hadīth, in As-Saheehah). [2]

The notoriety of the haughty and opinionated eugenicists is well-known and they were those individuals who pursued a futile endeavour to establish a genetically superior class and advocated for the reproduction of solely flawless individuals, thereby marginalizing anyone with even the most minor disability. The concept of “Positive eugenics” focused on promoting reproduction among individuals deemed to have so-called “good stock,” while “Negative eugenics” aimed to discourage or prevent reproduction among those considered unfit, such as the poor, criminals, or the feeble-minded. Unfortunately, some politicians and government officials embraced this sinister notion, placing the well-being of vulnerable members of society in the hands of individuals whose scientific knowledge lacked the compassion, mercy, and moral character prescribed by the Creator of the universe.

Francis Galton, born in 1822 and passed away in 1911, is recognized as the pioneer of the eugenics movement. His ideas were greatly influenced by Charles Darwin’s dubious idea of “The Origin of Species.” Galton’s primary focus was on the concept of heritability, particularly concerning intelligence. He aimed to address society’s perceived lack of talent and character by exploring the hereditary nature of these traits. He also believed that poverty, vagrancy, and crime could be attributed to the transmission of degenerate traits from parents to their offspring. His diabolical notions had a profound impact on certain intellectuals in the United Kingdom, the United States, Germany, and various other nations during that era. Indeed, all praise and thanks are due to Allah, as this is not how true believers tackle societal issues, rather, this approach was merely an attempt to find scapegoats to rationalise the neglect of the vulnerable members of society. Some of these arrogant and opinionated eugenicists believed that preventing the impoverished from procreating would safeguard society by preventing the birth of individuals resembling them. Throughout the twentieth century, thirty-two American states enacted eugenic sterilisation laws, resulting in the sterilisation of approximately sixty to seventy thousand individuals. Nonetheless, despite the concerted efforts of contemporary writers and politicians to address numerous societal issues, their endeavours have proven futile in fostering moral rectitude, as Imam As-Sadi [may Allah have mercy upon him] aptly pointed out, “It is truly remarkable that while they approach the problem from various angles, they have neglected to address the fundamental issue of deviating from the path of Allah. This deviation, which has ensnared the majority of young individuals, has not been curbed by a return to sound faith and unwavering certainty. Instead, these individuals have been left to wander aimlessly in their misguided beliefs and vacillate in their deception. Consequently, the very social problems they seek to remedy give birth to further social ills because it is imperative to acknowledge that unless the solutions to these societal maladies are grounded in sound faith and a righteous religion, they will only exacerbate and deteriorate”. [3]

The Imam also stated: “It is undeniable that the mere pursuit of worldly sciences cannot bring about the purification of souls and the acquisition of virtue. This fact is supported by experience and evident circumstances, which demonstrate that despite the progress and extensive knowledge offered by these sciences, they have failed to foster spiritual growth and moral rectitude. (Rather) what Islam propagates is entrusted with this rectification, and it is what steers individuals towards truthful and authentic sources of knowledge while encouraging them to engage in good deeds and deterring them from evil. Islam serves as the rectifier of beliefs and manners, cultivating righteous thoughts and preventing depravity. The essence of what religion advocates for in terms of believing in the Unseen, which includes belief in Allah and His possession of Names, Attributes, and Actions of perfection; belief in Angels; belief in the consequences of one’s actions in this life and the hereafter, which can only be known through the Messengers, is what acquaints a person with the undeniable fact that genuine rectification can only be achieved through sound belief and the religion of Islam. Hence, despite the worldly sciences being able to rectify certain matters based on what people know in detail, they will never attain the same level of perfection and excellence as the knowledge possessed by the Messengers. The knowledge of the Messengers surpasses what can be achieved through worldly sciences and has a profound impact on the souls, unlike any other. This is because the souls only submit willingly through belief in Allah, belief in His Angels, belief in His Books, belief in His Messengers, and belief in the hereafter. Without these beliefs, voluntary submission is simply not possible, as it is widely recognised in human nature”. [4]

The Islamic Ruling On Limiting The Number of Children and Contraception

Imam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allah have mercy upon him] was asked regarding a husband and wife who agreed to refrain from having children, and whether such a decision is permissible. In response, he stated that their agreement is not permissible. Under Islamic legislation, it is forbidden for them to do this as long as the woman is physically capable of bearing children and making the Ummah numerous. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Marry the childbearing, loving woman for I shall outnumber the peoples by you on the Day of Resurrection”. In another wording [of this narration the Prophet said], “Outnumber [i.e. the followers of the other] Prophets on the Day of Judgement”. That is because by way of this [i.e. having many children] those who worship Allah among the Muslims will be numerous, and the Ummah will be numerous and strong in opposing their enemies. It is impermissible for a man to abandon having children out of fear of either fatigue from seeking a livelihood, facing hardships, incurring expenses, or simply desiring to enjoy one’s wife and so on. It is also impermissible for a woman to engage in this act; instead, it is incumbent upon both of them to pursue the means to have children. They should be enthusiastic in their pursuit of offspring, aiming to increase the number of the Ummah and fulfill what the Prophet has stated. However, if the woman experiences significant pain as a result of a uterine illness or is only able to give birth through surgical means, it is permissible for her to refrain from having children. If the surgical procedure poses a potential risk to her well-being, or if she already has multiple children born closely together and finds it challenging to raise them, she may consider using contraceptive methods or taking preventative measures for a year or two – the period during the breastfeeding, to regain her strength and be better equipped to care for both her existing children and any future newborns. Responsibility of Muslim Doctors and Health Practitioners

A doctor must fear Allah when dealing with matters for which they are consulted, particularly those that involve the rights of individuals. This includes situations where a patient seeks a medical certificate, or when they require a note to confirm their fitness for employment. It also applies to consultations regarding specific medications, whether a woman’s health permits the use of contraception to avoid pregnancy, or if her condition necessitates the removal of her ovaries. Abu Hurairah [may Allah be pleased with him] reported that the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, [الْمُسْتَشَارُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ – The consultee is in a position of trust]. [6]

[الْمُسْتَشَارُ مُؤْتَمَنٌ – The consultee is in a position of trust]. [المستشار -The Consultee]: That is the one whose viewpoint is sought after in matters concerning Maslahah (an affair that promotes benefit and prevents harm). He (or she) is in a position of trust concerning what is asked and it is not permissible to deceive the one who consults by concealing the affair that would bring about benefit. [7] This hadith serves as proof, indicating that the consultee must consider the same course of action and opinion that they would choose for themselves. It is not permissible for them to guide their fellow Muslims towards something that they would not find pleasing. [8]

The Three Exceptional Worldly Blessings – [Must reflect on the adversity being encountered by our Palestinian bothers and sisters]

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Ubaidullaah Ibn Mihsan Al-Khatmiy narrated from his father that the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said: “Whoever among you wakes up [in the morning] safe in his property, healthy in his body and has his daily nourishment, it is as if he has been granted the entire world”’.

Al-Allaamah Zayd Bin Haadi Al-Madkhalee [may Allah have mercy upon him] said:

This hadeeth shows that those blessed with safety in the lands, physical health, houses to dwell in, and daily nourishment have indeed been blessed with a complete (worldly) blessing. Therefore, it is obligated for (them) to thank Allah constantly. This hadeeth shows that what suffices a person’s needs is a bounty and a blessing for which he must thank Allah [The Mighty and Majestic]. A person may strive to gather a lot of wealth, but he was created to worship Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] in the manner (commanded, legislated) by Allah and His Messenger [i.e. based on what is legislated and commanded in the Qur’an and authentic Sunnah). If a person does this, then indeed he will achieve and attain success; but if not, he will fail and incur loss. Therefore, is there one who will receive admonition?!

This hadeeth shows that to be blessed with safety in one’s religion, honour, wealth and blood is (something very) valuable. These are among those matters whose establishment- in a society- will bring about a good life and security, but if security is not present, chaos will unravel in the society, the powerful will overpower the weak and the oppressor will overpower the oppressed, thus there will be an evil state of affairs and maybe evil consequences. Therefore, any society or land that has been bestowed a ruler amongst the Muslims and granted security in a region under his ruler-ship, it is obligatory to obey him (i.e. obey the ruler of the land in what is good and not to rebel against him, even if he has shortcomings) and he should be aided by the other lands as much as one is able. And what is seen as a fact in relation to this (hadeeth) is that whoever is blessed with enough food and drink, a dwelling place, means of transportation, security in his place of residence and good physical health, it is as if he has been given the entire world. Therefore, he should be thankful to Allah [The Mighty and Majestic] for that until he meets Allah- [i.e. until death comes to him].
