[2] A Brief Look at Pseudo Researchers in Salafiyyah: [Observations on Some of Hasan Hasan’s Statements]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah (The Most High) said: [وَلَا تَلْبِسُوا الْحَقَّ بِالْبَاطِلِ وَتَكْتُمُوا الْحَقَّ وَأَنتُمْ تَعْلَمُونَ – And mix not truth with falsehood, nor conceal the truth while you know (the truth)]. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Ayah 42]

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “Allah forbade us from mixing truth with falsehood, thus leading to concealment of the truth. Mixing truth with false is by mixing the two until one of them is confused with the other. This is forgery and deceit by way of which what is made apparent is the opposite of what it is in reality. Likewise, when the truth is confounded with falsehood, the culprit manifests falsehood in the image of truth and speaks with a statement that carries two meanings- a correct meaning and a false meaning, so the listener is under the illusion that the speaker intends the correct meaning, whilst he (i.e. the speaker) intends the corrupt meaning. [1]

This Ayah and its explanation by Imaam Ibnul Qayyim expose the true nature of this pseudo-researcher. He brings up the topic of Takfeer (ex-communication) while discussing Takfeeri groups like ISIS and others, who do engage in false Takfeer. However, he wrongly associates Sunnism with Jihadism, terrorism, suicide bombing, and false Takfeer. He stated, “Sunni jihadism has been characterized by transnational terrorism, suicide bombing, and ex-communication”.

Firstly, it has been previously stated in part 1 that the term Sunni cannot be merely used to describe anyone who claims to be a Sunni because being considered Sunni is not solely based on displaying certain characteristics of the Sunnah. Imaam Al-Barbahaaree [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: It is not permitted for a man to say, “So and so is a person of the Sunnah” until he knows that he combines the characteristics of the Sunnah, so it is not said of him, “A person of the Sunnah” until he combines all the Sunnah. Al-Allamah Saalih Al-Fawzan [may Allah preserve him] said: “The characteristics of the Sunnah are creed, knowledge, and adherence to the (path of the) As-Salaf As-Salih (the pious predecessors). But if there is nothing in him except a single trait of the (sunnah), he is not regarded to be from Ahlus Sunnah based on a single characteristic or one thing, then what about the one who has nothing from that? [2]

Therefore, simply identifying oneself as a follower of Sunnah does not necessitate that one has distanced himself from the deviant factions that go against the teachings of the Sunnah, rather, “Identifying with Islam is a way to distinguish oneself from the adherents of other religions, identifying with the Sunnah is a way to distinguish oneself from Bidah and the Shiites, and identifying with Salafiyyah is a way to distinguish oneself from the Innovated Dawah Methodologies, which are followed by the followers of various deviant groups.” [3] A man asked Imaam Abu Bakr Ibn Ayyaash [may Allah have mercy upon him], “Who is the Sunni?” He replied, “A Sunni is the one when the Ahwaa (innovations in religion) are mentioned (i.e. criticised), he does not become angry due to any of that”. [4]

Indeed, it is well-known to the true adherents of the Sunnah that the factions of Bidah, which wrongly associate themselves with Sunnism solely due to their non-Shiite beliefs, vigorously uphold their religious innovations in the religion. This category encompasses ISIS and similar groups. Hence, how can someone who truly comprehends this truth attribute Jihadism, terrorism, suicide bombing, and the erroneous Takfeer of the Khawaarij to Sunnism or the Sunnah?

Secondly, concerning Takfeer, we affirm what Allah and His Messenger have stated regarding the various designations assigned to individuals. Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan [may Allah protect him] said:

Allah created both Jinn and mankind and bestowed upon them the inherent capacity to recognise Tawheed, surrender to Him, and worship Him alone. Nevertheless, some embraced this belief, while others did not. Allah says:
He it is Who created you, then some of you are disbelievers and some of you are believers].

Shaytaan and the proponents of evil wish them disbelief and evil, but Allah wishes them Imaan and well-being. Allah [The Exalted] says:

“Allah wishes to make clear (what is lawful and what is unlawful) to you and to show you the ways of those before you, and accept your repentance, and Allaah is All-Knower, All-Wise. Allaah wishes to accept your repentance, but those who follow their lusts, wish that you (believers) should deviate tremendously away from the Right Path”.

And as a result, Allah sent the Messengers, revealed the Scriptures, and established His Proofs. Consequently, some individuals choose to embrace the truth and have faith, while others opt to reject the truth and embrace disbelief. Allah has indeed distinguished between believers and unbelievers in both this life and the hereafter, and He has forbidden the two groups from being considered equal. Moreover, Allah has outlined recompense and judgment for each group in this life and the hereafter. He has assigned unique names to each group, such as Mumin for the believer, Kaafir for the disbeliever, Barrun for the righteous, Faajir for the evildoer, Mushrik for the polytheist, Muwahhid for the monotheist, Faasiq for the sinner, Munaafiq for the hypocrite, Mutee’un for the obedient one, and Aasee for the disobedient one. Furthermore, Allah has prohibited that these distinct identities and attitudes are equated. Allah says: [أَمۡ حَسِبَ ٱلَّذِينَ ٱجۡتَرَحُواْ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ أَن نَّجۡعَلَهُمۡ كَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ – Or do those who earn evil deeds think that We shall hold them equal with those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds?!]

Allah says: [أَمۡ نَجۡعَلُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُواْ وَعَمِلُواْ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ كَٱلۡمُفۡسِدِينَ فِى ٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمۡ نَجۡعَلُ ٱلۡمُتَّقِينَ كَٱلۡفُجَّارِ – Shall We treat those who believe (in the Oneness of Allaah Islamic Monotheism) and do righteous good deeds, as Mufsidoon (those who associate partners in worship with Allah and commit crimes) on earth?! Or shall We treat the Muttaqoon (the pious ones), as the Fujjaar (criminals, disbelievers, wicked, etc)?!]

That is to say, we have not made them equal since doing so would not comport with Allah’s justice.

Should we abandon the terms Kufr, Shirk, Kuffaar, and Mushrikeen mentioned in the Qur’an, Sunnah, and Islamic creed? This would go against Allah and His Messenger, and it would violate the teachings of the Book and Sunnah. If we change the true meanings of these terms, we would be aligning ourselves with those who distort the teachings of our Lord and the practices of our Messenger. What justification is there for such an act? Is it to appease the unbelievers? As long as we hold onto our faith, the non-believers will never be satisfied with us. Allah says:

They wish that you reject Faith, as they have rejected (Faith), and thus that you all become equal (like one another)]. [5]

Furthermore, concerning Takfeer, the upright scholars of the Ummah – both past and present – are well-versed in the established principles, unlike the proponents of Bidah who follow the ways of the khawaarij while falsely claiming to adhere to Sunnism or Salafiyyah. It is imperative to study the knowledge-based clarifications on Takfeer authored by the esteemed Salafi students of knowledge [may Allah protect them].

Thirdly, it is important to remind Hasan Hasan that every sect of Bidah, including ISIS, inevitably intertwines elements of truth and falsehood. Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] stated: “All sects of Ahlul Bidah gather truth and falsehood, deny the truth that is with the other sect of Bidah and believes in that which they possess of falsehood. Shaikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said:

وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمۡ ءَامِنُواْ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ قَالُواْ نُؤۡمِنُ بِمَآ أُنزِلَ عَلَيۡنَا وَيَكۡفُرُونَ بِمَا وَرَآءَهُ ۥ وَهُوَ ٱلۡحَقُّ مُصَدِّقً۬ا لِّمَا مَعَهُمۡ

And when it is said to them (the Jews), “Believe in what Allah has sent down,” they say, “We believe in what was sent down to us.” And they disbelieve in that which came after it, while it is the truth confirming what is with them]. [Surah Al-Baqarah Ayah 91]

That is because they initiate a Bidah, mix it with what the Messengers brought, split their religion, and become sects, so there’s truth and falsehood within every group amongst them. They deny the truth that is with the other group and believe in the falsehood that is with them. This is the state of affairs of all the people of Bidah because with them there is truth and falsehood, so they split their religion and become sects. Every sect denies the truth that is with the other sect and believes in the falsehood that is with them, such as the Khawaarij and Shia. [6]

In conclusion, it is undeniable that Hasan Hasan made a grave mistake by wrongly associating Sunnism with Jihadism, terrorism, suicide bombing, and the false Takfeer propagated by the proponents of Bidah who hide behind the terms Salafiyyah and Sunni. His actions serve as a reminder of the intellectual struggle faced by those who fail to accurately distinguish between Ahlus Sunnah and Ahlul Bidah, resulting in a dangerous mixture of truth and falsehood. Furthermore, they wrongly affirmed certain affairs for Ahlus Sunnah that should not be affirmed, while also unjustly criticising the Sunnah for things that should not be criticised. Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhali [may Allah preserve him] said:

After speaking about those who make Takfeer based on falsehood [I] amongst the different factions of the Jahmiyah [II], the Khawaarij [III], the Rawaafid and the Qadariyyah [IV], and the reason behind such Takfeer, Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated, “On the opposite side of these people who make Takfeer based on falsehood, there are people who do not know the creed of Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah as it should be, or they know some and are ignorant of some. And perhaps what they know of it, they do not clarify for the people, rather they conceal it. Neither do they forbid Bidah nor censure ahlul bidah and punish them; rather, perhaps they would censure speech related to the Sunnah and the fundamental principles of the religion – completely – and would not differentiate – in that – between what Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jamaa’ah say [i.e. adherents to the sound Prophetic Sunnah and sound unity] and what ahlul bidah wal furqah say [i.e. the proponents of innovation in religious affairs who split (disunite due to their opposition to the correct path)], or they would affirm all their differing Madhabs [creeds, paths] like how the scholars would affirm the different opinions related to affairs of Ijtihaad about which difference of opinion is justified. [V] This path has overwhelmed many of the Murji’ah, some of the jurists, those pursuing the path of asceticism, and the philosophers, just as it has overwhelmed – first and foremost – many of the people of desires and rhetoric. Both these paths are perverted, outside the Book [i.e. The Qur’an] and the Sunnah”. [End of Quote]

After quoting the above statement of Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah, Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi said, “I say, may Allah have mercy on Ibn Tamiyyah. Indeed, he clarified the situation of the people of his era and those before them, then what if he saw the situation of many amongst the Al-Jamaa’aat Al-Hizbiyyah Wal-Bid’iyyah [The Groups of Illegal Partisanship and Bidah [VI] who ascribe themselves to Ahlus Sunnah Wal-Jamaa’ah and take cover behind them – in particular – to promote their falsehoods! What if he saw them whilst they have definitely gathered between the Madhabs [creeds paths] of the two groups- the khawaarij and those who follow their way in pronouncing Takfeer in the subject matter of Al-Haakimiyyah [VII] and the way of the Mur’jiah [VIII] in the manner they approach the affair of people who are upon the big and numerous innovations in religious affairs, and equating innovation in religion to those affairs of the religion in which Ijtihaad is justified, whose people are rewarded alongside a refutation against their mistakes! In the view of these people, the leaders of Misguidance and Bidah are like the Imams of Guidance and Sunnah. [IX] [7]

Finally, Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyah said, “Rather what is obligatory is to clarify that which Allah sent His Messengers with and (revealed) in His Books, propagate that which the Messengers brought from Allah and fulfill the covenant which Allah took from the scholars. Therefore, it is obligatory to know that which the Messengers brought, believe in it, propagate it, call to it, strive with it, weigh up all that which the people embark upon – [statements, actions, religious fundamentals and subsidiary issues about the apparent actions of the Limbs and affairs related to actions of the heart]- under the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, neither following desires [through] customs, a school of law, a religious order, a leader or a predecessor, nor following conjecture through a weak hadeeth or corrupt analogy, regardless whether it is an analogy that offers some degree of certainty or not, or blindly following someone who it is not obligated to follow his statement and action because Allah -in His Book – has censured those who follow conjecture and that which their souls desire, whilst they abandon following that which came to them from their Lord of Guidance”. Amr bin Al-Aas [may Allah be pleased with him] narrated that he heard Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] saying, ‘’If a Mujtahid gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is correct, he will receive a double reward, and if he gives a verdict according to the best of his knowledge and his verdict is wrong, even then he will get a reward.’’ [Bukhari Number 7352]

Few Issues From This Hadeeth

[a] A Mujtahid (a scholar who strives to reach a judgement) is not deprived of reward. [b] The judgement of a non-Mujtahid is different from that of a Mujtahid. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said that the one who speaks about the religion without knowledge and out of ignorance [is guilty of] lying and sinning. The one who intentionally speaks to oppose the truth is threatened with entry into the fire of hell, as opposed to the affair of the one who speaks based on permissible Ijtihaad, for indeed he strives, fears Allaah as much as he is able, desires to seek knowledge as much as he was able, speaks for the sake of Allaah, knows the stronger proof and speaks based on that. This person is given two rewards if he is correct; but if he is mistaken, he receives one reward. [c] A Mujtahid can be correct or mistaken. [Arba’oona Hadeethaa Fee Usoolil Fiqh. pages 32-33]

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee said, “We do not say that there are people of ijtihaad amongst ahlul bidah because they are followers of desires, and Allaah and His Messenger have testified to this. The misguided innovator stirs up discord and errs, and then says to you, ‘This is ijtihaad’. When Hikmatiyaar and the misguided parties [in Afghanistan] murdered Shaikh Jameel Ur-Rahmaan, they said: ‘This is ijtihaad.’ They do not fall into an affair of misguidance or a calamity except that they say, “This is ijtihaad.” This is [tantamount] to diluting Islaam, falsehood, misguidance, bidah and confounding truth with falsehood, when the mistakes of the [true and qualified scholars of ijtihaad]- for which they are rewarded- are placed at the same level with innovation, about which the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] declared to be a path that will lead to the hell fire”. Even if it is not carried out by an organisation, this is still Tahazzub. Regardless of whether it is carried out within an organisation or not, coming up with wrong ideas and rallying support for them constitutes a Hizb”. [An Excerpt from “Kash As-Sitaar” pages 19-20. [1] A Brief Look at Pseudo Researchers in Salafiyyah: [Observations on Some of Hasan Hasan’s Statements]

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

“They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire”.

The person who lacks sound Imaan and creed revealed by Allah, the Creator of the universe, will find themselves in one of two situations: either their knowledge becomes corrupted or their intentions become corrupted. The first situation arises when they rely on assumptions and the second situation arises when they are driven by their desires, or one may combine both. [1]

Hasan Hasan, a researcher, said some things that showed he didn’t know much when he spoke about Jihadism, extremism, and militancy. He connected these methodologies with the terms Sunni and Salafi in an article he wrote against Al-Qaida, Jabhat An-Nusrah, and other groups like them. He said, “Ahrar al-Sham, a Salafi-jihadist group close to Jabhat al-Nusra”. He also stated, “Sunni jihadism has been characterized by transnational terrorism, suicide bombing, and ex-communication”. “The Isis ideology is generally viewed as identical to al-Qaida’s or the Saudi version of Salafism – adherence to fundamental Islamic tenets – and so there does not seem to be a serious effort to study it more closely”. [End of quote]

Response

To begin with, it is undeniable that Hasan Hasan accurately characterised the trajectory of ISIS and Al-Qaida as identical ideologies because their course of action undoubtedly represents a novel and innovated creed. However, his ignorance in this particular field became evident when he linked them with Salafiyyah. The noble Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “You must adhere to my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs [Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthmaan and Ali] after me. Adhere to it and cling to it firmly, and beware of newly invented matters in the religion, for every newly invented matter in the religion is an innovation in religion and every innovation is a path leading to misguidance”. [2]

Imaam Barbahaaree [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: It is not permitted for a man to say, “So and so is a person of the sunnah” until he knows that he combines the characteristics of the Sunnah, so it is not said of him, “A person of the Sunnah” until he combines all the Sunnah”. Al-Allamah Saalih Al-Fawzan [may Allah preserve him] said: The characteristics of the Sunnah are creed, knowledge, and adherence to the (path of the) As-Salaf As-Salih (the pious predecessors). But if there is nothing in him except a single trait of the (sunnah), he is not regarded to be from Ahlus Sunnah based on a single characteristic or one thing, then what about the one who has nothing from that? [3]

Hasan Hasan stated about the Imams of the mosques that were under ISIS’s control: “These Imams are generally asked to preach about three key concepts that are shared by all Salafi and jihadist groups, but ISIS has its own take on their functionalities, namely tawhid (strict monotheism), bida’a (deviation in religious matters) and wala wal baraa (loyalty to Islam and disloyalty to anything un-Islamic)”. [End of quote]

First, read https://www.abukhadeejah.com/a-response-to-western-academics-who-categorise-salafis-into-quietists-politicos-and-jihadists-and-why-this-is-a-false-categorisation/

Secondly, what is the true meaning behind Hasan Hasan’s concept of “Strict monotheism”? This is simply a deceitful ploy utilised by some researchers to confuse the matter and mislead the reader into believing that there are different forms of monotheism. However, Tawheed is the cornerstone of Islam and should be comprehended and followed in the same manner as the Prophet and his companions did. Read below

Thirdly, concerning Bida’a, Muslims are obligated to follow the Sunnah as it was interpreted by the Prophet’s companions and to keep a distance from all deviated sects. Read below:

As for Walaa Wal Baraa, Abu Umaamah [may Allah be pleased with him] said that Allaah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said: “Whoever loves for the sake of Allah, hates for the sake of Allah, gives for the sake of Allah, and withholds for the sake of Allah has perfected the faith.” [Sahih Abu Dawud 4681]

Hasan Hasan stated that one of the Khaarijites of ISIS said: “In the videos we produce, you see the sentence ‘deal with them in a way that strikes fear in those behind them’, and that verse speaks for itself. One more thing: the prophet told the people of Quraish, ‘With slaughter, I came to you'”. [End of quote]
“With slaughter I came to you”. [4]

Response

Abdullah Ibn Amr Ibn Aas [may Allah be pleased with him and his father] was asked about the worst thing he saw committed by the Quraysh against Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him], so he said, “I was present when their notables met together one day in al-Hijr. They spoke about Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] and said, ‘We have never exercised patience in anything similar to that which we are exercising patience regarding this man. He has declared us fools, reviled our forefathers, criticised our religion, split our ranks and insulted our gods. Indeed, we have exercised patience regarding him in a great affair – or they stated some statement to that effect. So while they were engaged in that discussion, Allaah’s Messenger appeared and kept on walking until he touched the corner [of the Ka ‘bah, where the Black Stone is]; then he went past them as he performed Tawaaf around the Kabah. When he went past them, they made fun of some of the statements he was uttering, and I could see from [the expression] on his face that it [offended him]. Then he carried on and when he went past them the second time, they made fun of him in the same manner and I could see from [the expression] on his face that it [offended him]. Then he carried on and when he went past them the third time, they made fun of him in the same manner. Then he said, “O Quraish! Listen to me. By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad’s soul, I have brought slaughter to you”. The people were very shocked by his statement to the extent that there was not a man amongst them except that he froze as if there was a bird on his head, and those who uttered the harshest statements to him – before that – began speaking to him with the best words, saying, “O Abul Qaasim! Go away, go away, because by Allaah you have never been an ignorant person”. So he left them. Then the next day, they gathered at al-Hijr and I was with them. They said to one another, “You stated how impatient you are becoming with him, what you have heard about him and what he is saying, then as soon as he said something that alarmed you, you left him alone”. Whilst they were in that state, Allaah’s Messenger appeared and they all rushed towards him together, surrounded him and said, “You are the one who said such and such” – referring to what has reached them regarding the criticism he directs at their gods and religion. He said, “Yes, I am the one who said that”. Then indeed I saw a man amongst them grab the neck of his garment, so Abu Bakr as-Siddeeq [may Allaah be pleased with him] got up to defend him and said whilst crying, “Would you kill a man just because he says, ‘My lord is Allah?’ Then they left him and that was the worst incident of aggression I saw from the Quraish. [5]

In another hadeeth reported by Imaam Bukhaari, Urwa Bin Zubayr [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: I asked Abdullah Ibn Amr [may Allaah be pleased with him], “What was the worst thing the Mushrikoon did to Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him]?’ He said, “I saw Uqbah Bin Abee Mu’ayt coming to the Prophet while he was praying and put his sheet around his neck and squeezed it hard. AbuBakr [may Allaah be pleased with him] came and pulled Uqba away from the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] and said, ‘Do you intend to kill a man just because he says, ‘My Lord is Allaah’, and he has brought forth clear signs (proofs) from your Lord?'”. [6]

It is evident from the narrations mentioned above that the Prophet faced significant harm from the prominent figures of the Quraish. And regarding the statement of the Prophet, “O Quraish! Listen to me. By the One in Whose hand is Muhammad’s soul, I have brought slaughter to you”, Shaikh Saalih Aala Ash-Shaikh [may Allaah preserve him] said, “These people come forward and express their doubts by claiming that the Prophet said, ‘I have brought you slaughter’… ‘I have brought you slaughter’. They understand the word ‘slaughter’ as cutting off the head. However, this interpretation is completely incorrect and far from what is correct. One of the reasons why it is far from what is correct is that no one from the Ummah among the companions of the Prophet to whom this statement was uttered, has ever implemented it in this manner until in recent times when these Khaarijites have started implementing it in such a way. The Prophet’s statement “I have brought you slaughter” was made in response to the cruel treatment of captives and enemies by the Arabs and disbelievers before Islam. They would torture, punish, and humiliate them in various ways. However, the Prophet prohibited such actions and instead introduced the concept of killing through confrontation, specifically in the context of war between combatants. In this context, slaughter means to kill and engage in combat, rather than simply pulling out a knife as some may assume. Islam abolished all the torture and mutilation that the Arabs used to inflict on people during war, such as cutting off ears and mutilating bodies. The only thing that remained was the act of killing during war between combatants. If a person is not killed, they are to be treated with honour, protection, and respect, and they fall under the well-known rules regarding captives. This hadith has many implications and requires a detailed explanation”. [7]

Hence, we would like to inquire from the malicious and uninformed researchers, once they have gained knowledge about the accurate interpretation of this hadeeth from a knowledgeable Saudi Salafi Scholar, will they continue to associate the actions of the Khawaarij (ISIS, etc.) with Salafiyyah or Suniyyah?! By Allah, they have spoken a grave accusation and a vile remark. May Allah guide them or shield us from their defamatory words. Aameen.

Narrations Regarding The Khawaarij

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon im] informed us about the khawaarij in many ahaadeeth. He said, “A people will come from the east who recite the Qur’an, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion just as an arrow pierces its target and they will not return to it just as the arrow does not return to the bow”. [8]

He said, “During the last days [i.e. end of time], there will be young people with foolish dreams. They will say the best of statements amongst creation, but they will pass through Islam just as an arrow passes through its game. Their Imaan will not go beyond their throats”. [9]

He said, “There will be discord and division in my Ummah and a people will come with beautiful statements but evil deeds. They recite the Qur’an, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will exit the religion just as an arrow leaves its target and they will not return until the arrow returns to its notch. They are the worst of the creation”. [10]

He said, “Some people from my Ummah will emerge from the east, who recite the Quran but it will not go beyond their throats. Every time a group of them appears it will be cut off. The Messenger repeated this and on the tenth time he said, “Every time a group of them emerges, it will be cut off, until Dajjaaj appears from their remnants”. [11]

Ubaydullaah Ibn Abee Raafi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “The Khawaarij came out against Ali ibn Abee Taalib [may Allah be pleased with him] and said, ‘There is no judgement, except the judgement of Allah’, so Ali said them, ‘A statement of truth by way of which falsehood is intended'”. [12]

Imaam Wahb Ibn Munabbih [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “I was acquainted with the early period of Islaam. By Allaah, the Khaawaarij have never had a group except that Allaah caused it to split because of their evil state of affairs. Never did one of them publicize his opinion except that Allah caused his neck to be struck. Never did the Muslim Ummah unite behind a man from the Khawaarij. If Allah allowed the opinion of the Khawaarij to be accepted and established, then the earth would have been corrupted, the carriageways would have been cut off, Hajj to the sacred house of Allah would have ceased and the affair of Islam would have reverted to ignorance until the people seek shelter in the mountains as they did in the time of ignorance. If ten or twenty men among them were to rise, there would not be a man among them except that he claims the khilaafah for himself- every man among them would have ten thousand other men with him and all of them fighting each other, accusing one another of disbelief until the believer fears for himself, his religion, his life, his family, his wealth, and would not know where to travel or who to be with”. [13]

Imaam Ibn Katheer [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “If they ever gained strength, they would surely corrupt the whole of the earth, Iraq and Syria (Shaam) – they would not leave a baby, male or female, neither a man or a woman, because as far as they are concerned the people have caused corruption, a corruption that cannot be rectified except by mass killing”.More detail here by Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him]: https://www.abukhadeejah.com/isis-in-iraq-syria-ibn-kathir-died-774-ah-if-the-khawaarij-ever-gained-strength-in-iraq-and-syria-there-would-be-mass-killing/

Imaam At-Tabari [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The Khawarij came to a village and captured a man and his daughter. She said to them, ‘O people of Islaam! Verily, my father is an old man so do not kill him, and I am only a girl. By Allaah, I have never committed immorality and I have never harmed anyone’. They brought her out to murder her whilst she kept on saying, ‘What sin have I committed; what sin have I committed?’ She fainted thereafter and they killed her with their swords”. [14]

Indeed, we have all seen the terrible acts committed by the Khawaarij in our time. The Khawaarij show no mercy, not even towards each other, as Imam Wahb Ibn Munabbih stated, “If ten or twenty men among them were to rise, there would not be a man among them except that he claims the Caliphate for himself; every man among them would have ten thousand other men with him and all of them fighting each other, accusing one another of disbelief”. Indeed, this is exactly what was happening in Syria. Furthermore, it is important to remind the Islamophobes, ideologues, rabble-rousers, and demagogues about the heinous acts carried out by certain leaders within the globalist community. The khaarijites distort the teachings of the pure religion and engage in slaughter and transgression, while some globalists initiate hostilities, transgress boundaries, and commit acts of violence in the name of upholding the so-called ideals of the so-called civilized world. May Allah safeguard us from the malevolence of the khaarijites and spiteful secularists. Aameen.

[11] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Imaam Al-Barbahaaree [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated in Sharh As-Sunnah:

“So examine, may Allaah have mercy upon you, the speech of everyone you hear from, in your time in particular; so do not act in haste. And do not enter into anything from it, until you ask and see: Did any of the Companions of the Prophet sallAllaahu `alayhi wa sallam speak about it or anyone from the scholars? So if you find a narration about it from them, then cling onto it and do not go beyond it for anything and do not give preference to anything over it, and thus fall into the Fire”. [End of quote]

Ed Husain stated:

In the above statement, Ed Husain – as usual -congratulates the unbelievers during their festivals. Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allaah preserve him] forwarded us a Fatwa of Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] as follows: Shaikh Ibn Uthaimīn was asked, “What is the ruling on congratulating the unbelievers during their Christmas celebrations? How are we to respond to them if they congratulate us with Merry Christmas?” So he answered, “Congratulating the non-Muslims during their Christmas celebrations or other religious celebrations is forbidden by a consensus cited by Ibn Al-Qayyim in his book, Ahkām Ahlidh-Dhimmah…* If they congratulate us during their celebrations, then we do not respond to that, because it is not our celebration and it is a celebration that Allah is not pleased with. That is because either it is a celebration that they have innovated into their religion or it is one that is legislated in their religion but was abrogated with the advent of the religion of Islam which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sent with to the whole of mankind. It was regarding this that Allah said, “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter, he will be one of the losers.” (Āli ‘Imrān 3:85) Therefore, to accept an invitation from them at Christmas is forbidden because to participate with them (in a Christmas meal) is even more severe than congratulating them.” (Majmū’ Fatāwā 3/45-46, abridged)

Pay close attention to the statement: “If they congratulate us during their celebrations, then we do not respond to that, because it is not our celebration and it is a celebration that Allah is not pleased with. That is because either it is a celebration that they have innovated into their religion or it is one that is legislated in their religion but was abrogated with the advent of the religion of Islam which the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sent with to the whole of mankind. It was regarding this that Allah said, “And whoever seeks a religion other than Islam, it will never be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter, he will be one of the losers”.

Saudi Salafi Erudite Scholar -Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] was asked: In the coming days, the unbelievers will celebrate their festivals, some of which are Christmas, New Year’s Day, and so on. I am in a government department, and with us are some Christians who have been given leave to attend and celebrate their festivals. I saw congratulations and good wishes from some people, a Muslim man, in the speeches that were addressed to them (in relation to this festival), just as greeting cards are distributed and printed throughout the country, sold in many public bookshops; so is there any advice on this and a statement of the Islamic ruling?

The response: This is not permissible. Congratulating the unbelievers) by way of speech during their festivals, or by phone or printed cards, all of this is evil (i.e. against the Qur’an and Sunnah) and it is not permissible for a Muslim to (do so), neither in Muslim countries nor in non-Muslim countries. Neither does he congratulate them during their festivals nor participate in them, nor does he work with them to aid them in that, because this is tantamount to aiding (someone) upon falsehood; therefore, he neither joins them nor help them (in this affair), nor congratulate them on their false festivals (i.e. not accepted by Allah). [(1)]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated:

As for the festivals of of the polytheists, they combine Shubhah [an affair that resembles truth but is falsehood in reality] and Shahwah [vain or impermissible desires], and it is falsehood, so there is no benefit in it in relation to religion, and what is in it of immediate pleasure, its end result will be pain. Therefore, being present (where it is established) and witnessing it is tantamount to falsehood. And when it is the case that Allaah praises (the one) who abandons witnessing it, which is merely being present, seeing, or hearing, then how about being in agreement with what is more than that, such as the deeds that are tantamount to falsehood and not just witnessing it?” [(2)]

Also, the Prophet described his four khulafaa [Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthmaan, and Ali (radiyallaahu-anhum)] with the words ‘Raashideen and Mahdiyyeen’, because the Raashid [i.e. The one who is steadfast upon the right path and is firmly established upon it] is the opposite of the Ghaawiy [The one who strays from the right path or conduct], and the Mahdee [The one guided to the path of truth and yield obediently to it] is the opposite of the Daalun [the misguided one, especially in knowledge and creed]. [(3)]

[(2)]: Iqtidaa As-Siraat Al-Mustaqeem 1/483. paraphrased

[(3)]: An Excerpt from Sharh Kitaab At-Tawheed. Lesson 4

[10] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Exalted] stated about the Prophets [peace be upon them]:

أُوْلَـٰٓٮِٕكَ ٱلَّذِينَ هَدَى ٱللَّهُ‌ۖ فَبِهُدَٮٰهُمُ ٱقۡتَدِهۡ‌ۗ

They are those whom Allah had guided. So follow their guidance. (1)

Meaning, these Prophets are the ones whom Allah [The Almighty] has guided to the true religion He has ordained, therefore, follow their guidance and path. (2)

Indeed, our Lord commanded us to follow the path of the Prophets in all facets of life, and Prophet Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and all the Prophets] is the last of them whose path has abrogated all other paths and laws. Therefore, no one understands and will ever understand the human condition better than he does until the Day of Judgement. However, misguided Ed Husain desperately seeks to elevate people whose status Allah has not elevated so that he can also elevate his status among those who he hopes would view him as their ally in thought and orientation. Ed said:

First of all, unless this person accepted Islam and followed the path prescribed by Allah to understand the human condition, he is undoubtedly on the wrong path, let alone being one who best understood humans.

Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] said:

“The Creation is needy in two different ways. Everyone, the righteous and the wicked are bound to the first because it cannot be avoided. This (type of neediness) does not necessitate praise or rebuke, neither reward nor punishment; rather, it is solely due to the fact that they are created beings (i.e. absolutely in need and completely dependent on their Creator in every way). The second type of neediness is one of choice, from which two magnificent aspects of knowledge emerge. The first is one’s knowledge and awareness of their Lord, and the second is knowledge and awareness of oneself in reality. When these two aspects of knowledge are acquired, they lead to a type of neediness that becomes a person’s distinct and most precious source of wealth, as well as the way to success and happiness in (this life and the next). The varying stations of people in this type of neediness are determined by their distinct stations in these two aspects of knowledge.

Those who know that their Lord (Allah) is the Self-Sufficient One—completely free from all needs and upon Whom all things are dependent, and none can do without Him for even a moment- will know that they are completely needy. Those who know that their Lord is the only One with a perfect ability (the only One with All-Encompassing Ability and the ability to do all things) will know that they are totally helpless – (cannot accomplish anything in the blink of an eye without) His support. Those who know that their Lord is The All-Mighty will know that they are (absolutely impoverished, weak, and in need unless He provides). Those who know that their Lord is the possessor of All-Encompassing knowledge and Wisdom will recognise their ignorance.

Allah took them from their mother’s womb when they had no knowledge, no possessions, no ability to give or take, and no ability to harm or benefit. It is well known that this is the very nature of human beings and they continue in that state, (and) this state of neediness, which persisted until they attained a more perfect state, is something witnessed and manifest. They do not leave this state and transition into a state of Lordship, where they are self-sufficient and have no need of anyone or anything. Instead, they continue to be slaves of Allah and dependent on their Rabb [Allah the Creator, All-Provider and the Only One Who Controls and Sustains Everything] and their Faatir [Allah, The Originator and Creator of Everything]”. (3)

Therefore, we want to remind misguided Ed Husain that Alexis is not someone the Creator has chosen to serve as a guide he did not pursue the path ordained in the final revelation to understand himself and others.

Second, among the creation, the Prophets and Messengers are the most judicious. Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “The clear evidence that the Messengers are the most judicious of all creation is that the beneficial knowledge they have brought–righteous actions and beneficial affairs related to true well-being in this worldly life and the afterlife–has not come from others or anything even close to it. Nothing else, from any perspective, can compare to what the Messengers conveyed in terms of useful knowledge, righteous deeds, and the beneficial affairs of true well-being in this worldly life and the afterlife. Whoever ponders their personal life stories – in specific and general (circumstances), their patience and perseverance, their abstinence from those unneeded lawful pleasures of the worldly life, their fervent longing for Allah’s Pleasure and the reward Allah has kept in the afterlife, their pure manners, the fact that they are the most truthful among the creation, (possessors) of the most virtuous hearts and souls, trustees of the greatest trust (i.e. revelation and Messenger ship), the noblest of individuals whom a person can accompany, the purest in their innermost conscience, the purest in their private affairs – will not question that they are without exception the most judicious among Allah’s creation. (As a result), there is no question that whoever is closest to them (i.e. follows them properly), their share of judiciousness will be more than (that of others)”. (4)

Therefore, we want to remind misguided Ed Husain that Alexis is not someone the Creator has chosen to serve as a guide because he did not pursue the path ordained in the final revelation to understand himself and others.

Allah [The Most High] said:
وَكَذَٲلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ ٱلۡأَيَـٰتِ وَلِتَسۡتَبِينَ سَبِيلُ ٱلۡمُجۡرِمِينَ

And thus do We explain the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) in detail, so that the way of the Mujrimun (criminals, polytheists, sinners) become manifest. [Surah Al-An’aam. Aayah 55]

Imam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated:

Those who know Allah, His Book, and His Religion are acquainted with the paths of believers and disbelievers in detail; the two paths are clearly visible to them, just as a path leading to its destination and a path leading to destruction is made clearly visible. They are the most knowledgeable of all creation–the ones who benefit (the people) the most, provide the most valuable advice, and are evidence of upright guidance. This is why the Prophet’s companions have excelled over all those who came after them until the Day of Judgement, because they were raised on the path of misguidance, Shirk, and paths leading to destruction, and they knew them in detail. The Messenger then came to them and brought them out of darkness into complete light- from shirk to Tawheed, ignorance to knowledge, misguidance to guidance, injustice to justice, confusion and blindness to guidance, and clear-sightedness. They understood the worth of what they received and were triumphant as a result of it, as well as what was included in it since what is opposed to the (truth and upright guidance) shows the goodness of what it opposes, because (righteous deeds and beliefs ordained by the Creator) are made evident by their opposites. So they grew in desire and love for what they embraced and detested and despised what they had rejected (i.e. pre-Islamic beliefs, ideas, deeds, etc). And they had the greatest love for Tawheed, Imaan, and Islam, and the most hatred for anything that was opposed to it. They had the most in-depth understanding of the (upright) path.

However, among those who came after the Prophet’s companions are people raised in Islam but do not have knowledge of what is opposed to it. As a result, some of the details of the believers’ and disbelievers’ paths were perplexing to them because confusion occurs due to a lack of understanding about both paths or one of them, as Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab [may Allah be pleased with him] said: “The bonds of Islam will be undone one after the other when a people who grew up in Islaam know not what Jaahiliyyah (Pre-Islamic Ignorance) is”. This (statement shows an aspect of) Umar’s perfect knowledge (of Islam and its opposite). (5)

Indeed, there is a statement in the above clarification – by Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim – that precisely reveals an issue with Ed Husain, namely the fact that Ed is a person who finds it difficult to distinguish between the paths of believers and disbelievers in some matters. As a result, he rushes to support what he believes to be an aspect of praiseworthy civilization until he praises the path of disbelievers. Alexis was a political thinker who wrote about democracy, and Ed regards him as someone who understands humankind! Indeed, it is impossible for someone who concocts ideas and rejects the path of the seal of the Prophets to know what is actually useful or harmful to humanity in affairs of politics.

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen [may Allah have mercy upon him] said:

“We are certain that anyone who isolates politics from the religion (of Islam) and develops politics based on what he deems appropriate and what he forbids, then indeed, his politics is corrupt. If it corrects one matter based on his deficient opinions, it certainly corrupts from another angle. If one considers the state of affairs of those who base their politics on their desires and opinions, and become distant from the religion of Islam, one will discover – after contemplation – that either all or most of that politics is corrupt, and that if it rectifies an affair from one angle, it corrupts from another. So, based on this, separating politics from the religion (of Islam) is a sinful deed, and it is incumbent on one who seeks self-rectification and (rectification) of others to do so only on the basis of Islam”. (6)

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return, and make life for me (a means of) increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [9] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

The Civilisation Mantra

What is Civilisation? It is said to be “human society with its well-developed social organizations, or the culture and way of life of a society or country at a particular period in time”.

Indeed, we frequently witness Ed Husain’s extreme exaggeration and negligence whenever he fights for the right to free speech that will allow him to make claims that are tantamount to shirk, bidah, kufr, and sin, just as we frequently witness the terrorists’ extremism and extreme misguidance when they attempt to confront those who disrespect the honour of the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him].

In the same way that terrorists misuse freedom of expression to incite murder, Ed Husain misuses it to advance his misguided views in the name of civilization, even going so far as to admire heretical philosophers like Aristotle. Indeed, a sensible person must pay attention to an important matter concerning civilisation and worldly achievements because such achievements mean nothing if its achievers deviate from the purpose of their existence in this worldly life, which is to worship Allah alone. Allah [The Most High] says: [ وَمَا خَلَقۡتُ ٱلۡجِنَّ وَٱلۡإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعۡبُدُونِ – And I Allaah did not create Jinn and humankind, except that they should worship Me alone]. [Surah Adh-Dhaariyaat. Verse 56]

Allaah [The Exalted] says:

And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (saying): “Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e. do not worship Taghut besides Allah).” Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth). [Surah An-Nahl. Verse 36]

Allaah [The Exalted] says:

Mankind were one community and Allah sent Prophets with glad tidings and warnings, and with them He sent the Scripture in truth to judge between people in matters wherein they differed. And only those to whom (the Scripture) was given differed concerning it after clear proofs had come unto them through hatred, one to another. Then Allah by His Leave guided those who believed to the truth of that wherein they differed. And Allah guides whom He wills to a Straight Path. [Surah Al-Baqarah. Verse 213]

Allaah [The Exalted] says:
وَمَا كَانَ ٱلنَّاسُ إِلَّآ أُمَّةً۬ وَٲحِدَةً۬ فَٱخۡتَلَفُواْ‌ۚ وَلَوۡلَا ڪَلِمَةٌ۬ سَبَقَتۡ مِن رَّبِّكَ لَقُضِىَ بَيۡنَهُمۡ فِيمَا فِيهِ يَخۡتَلِفُونَ

Mankind were but one community (i.e. on one religion – Islamic Monotheism), then they differed (later), and had not it been for a Word that went forth before from your Lord, it would have been settled between them regarding what they differed]. [Surah Yunus. Verse 19]

Ibn Abbaas [may Allah be pleased with him and his father] said, “There were ten generations between Nuh and Adam, and they were all on the true path [i.e. Islam – worshipping Allah alone] until they disagreed and began worshipping idols, false deities, and images, at which point Allah sent Messengers with clear proofs and evidences”. (1)

Shirk began among the people of Nuh when they overstated (the status) of the righteous and turned away from the call of their Prophet [Nuh] out of pride. Allah said that the people of Nuh said:

وَقَالُواْ لَا تَذَرُنَّ ءَالِهَتَكُمۡ وَلَا تَذَرُنَّ وَدًّ۬ا وَلَا سُوَاعً۬ا وَلَا يَغُوثَ وَيَعُوقَ وَنَسۡرً۬ا

And they have said: ‘You shall not leave your gods, nor shall you leave Wadd, nor Suwa’, nor Yaghuth, nor Ya’uq, nor Nasr] (2)

Al-Bukhaari [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “It has been narrated from Ibn Abbaas [may Allah be pleased with him and his father] that these were the names of pious people amongst the people of Nuh, and when they died, shaytaan inspired their people to (prepare) and place idols at the places where they used to sit and to call those idols by their names. They did so but did not worship them until those people (who initiated them) had died and the origin of the idols had become obscure, whereupon people began worshipping them. (3)

Therefore, a sensible individual would next enquire as to what happened to the arrogant and obstinate non-believers during the era of noble Prophet Nuh [peace be upon him]. Allah says:

Nuh (Noah) said: “My Lord! They have disobeyed me, and followed one whose wealth and children give him no increase but only loss. And they have plotted a mighty plot. And they have said: ‘You shall not leave your gods, nor shall you leave Wadd, nor Suwa’, nor Yaghuth, nor Ya’uq, nor Nasr (names of the idols)’; and indeed they have led many astray. And (O Allah): ‘Grant no increase to the Zalimun (polytheists, wrong-doers, and disbelievers, etc.) save error.” Because of their sins (i.e Shirk and unbelief, and they rejected Nuh the Messenger of Allah) they were drowned, then were made to enter the Fire, and they found none to help them instead of Allah. [Surah Nuh]

Therefore, people who reject the reason for our existence in this life are condemned if they die in that state, and their achievements in this life will not benefit them in the next.

What about Fir’awn and his people, whose accomplishments in this life are well-known, but they’ve lost everything in the afterlife? Do Ed and those of his ilk not consider their plight? “The Fire; they are exposed to it, morning and afternoon (i.e. whilst they are in their graves), and on the Day when the Hour will be established (it will be said to the angels): “Cause Fir’aun’s(Pharaoh) people to enter the severest torment!” [Surah Ghaafir. Aayah 46]

“How many gardens and springs did they [Fir’aun’s (Pharaoh) people] leave behind! And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, and comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. And indeed We saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating torment, from Fir’aun (Pharaoh); Verily! He was arrogant and was of the Musrifun (those who transgress beyond bound in spending and other things and commit great sins)”. [Surah Ad-Dukhan. Ayaat 25-31]

In the guise of civilization, Ed Husain frequently supports individuals who sought to pervert the sound Islamic Aqeedah, such as Ibn Sina and other heretics of a like mind. Therefore, pay special attention to this insightful observation provided by Al-Allaamah Shamsuddeen Al-Afghaanee As-Salafi [may Allah have mercy upon him]: “Greek philosophy texts that promoted idolatry and grave worship were translated into Arabic, so many people who identified as Muslims busied themselves with them. These people included Al-Faraabee, Ibn Sina Al-Hanafi, Naseer At-Toosee, a proponent of shirk and disbelief, as well as others who played religious tricks on Islam in a manner similar to how Paul played religious tricks on Christianity”. (4)

This is from the information that Ed Husain and those of his ilk will never divulge to the public since doing so will shatter the basis of their falsehood.

Ed Husain also stated, “Ibn Rushd’s greatest contribution to civilisation was not only that he refuted Ghazzali, but this great Arab philosopher found ways to reconcile reason and religion, two valid ways in which to seek truth. It was that method of reason and rational thought of Arabian philosophers that gave Andalusia eight hundred years of a booming civilisation, until 1492 when Jews and Muslims were expelled by Catholic monarchs Isabelle and Ferdinand. Ibn Rushd and the Muslims of Andalusia were descendants of Caliph Mu’awiya, the Umayyads. In the Muslim East, Arabs gave way to others to rule: ‘Abbasids, Seljuks, Mamlukes, Mughals, Ottomans. But in the Muslim West, Andalusia, Sicily and Portugal it was the Arabian spirit of Mecca that shone”. [End of quote]

One can see that Ed made every effort to disguise the truth in the aforementioned remark, which makes it simple for the gullible and naive reader to believe that Ibn Rushd was right and that those who challenged him were in error as well as guilty of trying to block the minds of Muslims.

Then Ed said that Ibn Rushd is well-known as Averroes in the Latin West as if his fame among Westerners would beautify his affair and hide his obvious faults. However, what he fails to grasp is that by mentioning Ibn Rushd’s fame among Westerners, he has exposed Ibn Rushd’s affair! These Westerners are nothing more than apologists for Ibn Rushd’s faults and they continue to thank him for upholding Aristotle’s fallacy for their benefit. Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “He (Ibn Rushd) was the one who most closely followed Aristotle’s statements.” (5) Read about corrupt Aristotle in this article by Shaikh Abu Iyaad [may Allaah preserve him]. http://www.asharis.com/creed/articles/lxtuo-ibn-taymiyyah-compared-with-the-philosophersexposing-abu-adam-al-naruijis-acade.cfm

Similarly, Ed added to the misguidance by claiming that Ibn Rushd regarded philosophy to be Waajib! Indeed, we seek refuge with Allah from Shaytaan’s whispering because neither Ibn Rushd nor Ed has a pious predecessor in this matter, as Imaam Maalik [may Allaah have mercy on him] stated, “If theological rhetoric were knowledge, the Messenger’s companions and the Taabi’een would have spoken about it just as they spoke about religious rulings and laws, but it is falsehood and leads to falsehood.” (6)

As for Ibn Rushd’s response to those who refuted his misguidance, Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah said, “He (Ibn Rushd) responded to al-Ghazaali, but it was a response riddled with errors, and what was correct was with al-Ghazaali. He attributed several of his arguments to Ibn Sina rather than his predecessor (Aristotle), and he blamed the error on Ibn Sina. And in some of his arguments, he criticised Al-Ghazaali and accused him of being unjust because he (Ibn Rushd) views on corrupt speech.” (7)

Read on to see one of Ibn Rushd’s blunders as a result of his philosophy – a quote from Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah by Shaikh Abu Iyaadh. http://www.aboutatheism.net/articles/upniedg-the-universe-was-not-created-from-nothing-but-from-previously-existing-matter.cfm

Therefore, the believer ponders the plight of the destroyed nations in order to avoid following in the footsteps of their modern-day blind followers. Allah [The Exalted] says:

قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ سُنَنٌ فَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ

Many similar mishaps [troubles, problems] of life were faced by nations that have passed away before you, so travel through the earth, and see what was the end of those who disbelieved]. [Surah Aal Imraan. Verse 137]

Imaam Ibnul Qayyim [may Allaah have mercy upon him] stated: “Indeed, nations like yours existed before you, so consider their evil end. You must understand that their eil end was due to their rejection of Allah’s revelations and Messengers. They were your ancestors, and you are their descendants. The main thing that links you together (about an evil end) is your disbelief, and the result of that disbelief is devastation.” (8)

Imaam Muhammad Bin Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “If it is asked, ‘What is the point of telling us the stories of the destroyed nations when this Ummah will not be completely destroyed in the same way that the previous nations were destroyed?”

The Answer: This has two benefits: The first benefit is a clarification of Allah’s blessings upon us, that the occurrence of total destruction is removed from us, and that we would have deserved it if it had not been for Allah’s Benevolence. not for Allaah’s Benevolence we would have been deserving of it. Second, if punishment was not meted out in this life, a similar penalty to the one they got may be meted out in the hereafter to the person who committed the same offense. This can be deduced from the verse: “Such is the Seizure of your Lord when He seizes the population of towns while they are doing wrong. Verily, His Seizure is painful and severe. Indeed in that (there) is a sure lesson for those who fear the torment of the Hereafter”. [Surah Hud. 102-103]

So what is clear from this Ayah is that what they received in punishment will happen in the Hereafter, and Allah knows best. (9)

[7] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allaah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Sa’id al-Khudri [may Allah be pleased with him] reported that Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Whoever among you sees evil, let him change it with his hand. If he cannot do so, then with his tongue. If he cannot do so, then with his heart, which is the weakest level of faith”. (1)

Indeed, Ed’s intense desire for philosophy drove him to make some outlandish claims while desperately striving to dismiss the judgements of upright scholars against philosophy and philosophers. He stated, “What the Arabians gave to the West and Israel, Saudi Arabia should now reclaim and revive at home and abroad again. The neo-Renaissance is rooted in this deep history of open-minded Arabians from Mecca that rekindled what Spinoza called the ‘natural light of reason,’ to strengthen our faith in God with use of our intellect —not sheepish adherence to fatwas of clerics and ayatollahs who forbid Aristotelian philosophy of critical thinking”. [End of quote]

There is no doubt that attacking the upright scholars of Islam and seeking to propagate fallacies and support the proponents of misguidance would be a grave act of treachery. This is exactly what Ed is doing when he desperately wants to promote heretical philosophers while disparaging upright scholars of the Sunnah. Imaam Abu Haatim Ar-Raazee [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “One of the signs of ahlul bidah is that they speak ill of those who adhere to the authentic narrations (of the prophet and the companions)”. (2)

Al-Allaamah Shamsuddeen Al-Afghaanee As-Salafi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “When Islam’s enemies realised they couldn’t destroy the religion, they planted disbelieving agents within it, pretending to be Muslims in order to sow confusion, trials, and tribulations, and to spread shirk by exaggerating the status of the pious and exalting their graves with (beliefs and practises) not ordained by Allah. So this Ummah was put to the test by the machinations of the (heretic and hypocritical) Abdullaah Bin Saba, who defied Ali Bin Abee Talib [may Allah be pleased with him]. The disciples of Abdullah Bin As-Sabah were known as the Saba-iyyah, and afterward as the rawaafid (Shiites), ismaaliyyah (Shiites), nusayriyah (Shiites), and others within the Baatiniyyah. They used to worship the graves and the deceased, and they used to erect places of worship and domed (shaped) shrines on top of these graves. As a result, they revived the practises of the Jews, the Christians, and idol worshippers, and so the practises of grave worshippers in this Muslim Ummah manifested in activities carried out by the rawaafid (Shiites).

Second, the books of Greek philosophy that contained the ideas of grave and idol worship were translated into Arabic, then many people who identified as Muslims spent their time with these books. These people included Al-Faraabee, Ibn Sina Al-Hanafi, Naseer At-Toosee, a proponent of shirk and disbelief, (I) as well as others who played religious tricks on Islam, much like Paul did with Christianity.

They were influenced by Greek Philosophers’ ideas, such as the creed of grave worship, and through Greek Philosophy they became advocates of grave worship. Due to preoccupation with the Books of Philosophers, these individuals’ practises became widespread among the proponents of rhetoric among the Hanafi Maatooreediyyah (II) and the Ash-ariyyah Kullaabiyyah (III), and as a result, they were affected by the creed of grave worship. These individuals, such as Taftaazaanee Al-Hanafi (a Philosopher of the Maatooreediyyah and Grave Worshippers) and Jurjaanee Al-Hanafi (a caller to superstition), became proponents of both grave worship and the Jahmiyyah creed at the same time. (3)

The clarification provided above by Shaikh Shamsuddeen Al-Afghaanee As-Salafi reveals the source of the poisonous influence of philosophy in the Ummah. However, due to the bidah of philosophy that has permeated Ed deeply, he is unable to accept the fact that philosophy is not based on the methodology of the Prophets and Messengers. As a result, he employs sophistry, criticises the upright scholars, tries to flatter the Saudis, and then beautifies for them what the pious predecessors have deemed ugly. Imaam Maalik [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “The latter part of this Ummah (i.e. those who will come after the pious predecessors) will not be rectified except by way of that which rectified its earlier part (i.e. the pious predecessors)”. He also said, “Whoever innovates a bidah in Islam and considers it to be something good, then indeed he has claimed that Muhammad betrayed the Risaalah (i.e. the message he was entrusted with) because Allaah said: ٱلۡيَوۡمَ أَكۡمَلۡتُ لَكُمۡ دِينَكُمۡ -This day, I have perfected your religion for you.” Therefore, what was not part of the religion at that time (i.e. during the time of the Messenger) cannot be part of the religion today (i.e. after his departure from this world)”. (4)

Then Ed said: “The neo-Renaissance is rooted in this deep history of open-minded Arabians from Mecca that rekindled what Spinoza called the ‘natural light of reason,’ to strengthen our faith in God with use of our intellect—not sheepish adherence to fatwas of clerics and ayatollahs who forbid Aristotelian philosophy of critical thinking”. [End of quote]

Indeed, statements like this one imply that anyone who does not support Ed’s methodology is not open-minded! To the day of judgement, no one will be able to match the virtue of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) companions in terms of faith, knowledge, and clarity of vision, as well as when it comes to matters that established the well-being, prosperity, strength, and honour of Muslims in their religious and worldly affairs; however, they never engaged in philosophical discussion. Does this lessen their capacity for critical thought, and can it be argued that they lacked minds as a result?!

The noble Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said:

Verily he lives long among you will see a lot of differing, so you must keep to my Sunnah and to the Sunnah of the Khulafaa ar-Rashideen (the rightly guided caliphs). Adhere to it with your molar teeth (i.e. adhere to it firmly). And beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for every newly invented matter [in the religion] is a bidah (innovation in the religion), and every bidah is misguidance.” [Abu Dawood. Number 4607] [Tirmidhee. Number 2676]

Regarding Ed’s comment “Sheepish adherence to fatwas of clerics and ayatollahs who forbid Aristotelian philosophy of critical thinking”, then, based on Shaikh Shamsuddeen Al-Afghaanee’s clarification, we do indeed remind him once more, “When Islam’s enemies realised they couldn’t destroy the religion, they planted disbelieving agents within it, pretending to be Muslims in order to sow confusion, trials, and tribulations, and to spread shirk by exaggerating the status of the pious and exalting their graves with (beliefs and practises) not ordained by Allah. As a result, they revived the practises of the Jews, the Christians (those among them who deviated after the departure of their Prophets), and idol worshippers, and so the practises of grave worshippers in this Muslim Ummah manifested in activities carried out by the rawaafid (Shiites). Second, the books of Greek philosophy that contained the ideas of grave and idol worship were translated into Arabic, and then many people who identified as Muslims spent their time with these books. These people included Al-Faraabee, Ibn Sina Al-Hanafi, Naseer At-Toosee, a proponent of shirk and disbelief, as well as others who played religious tricks on Islam, much like Paul did with Christianity. They were influenced by Greek Philosophers’ ideas, such as the creed of grave worship, and through Greek Philosophy they became advocates of grave worship. Due to preoccupation with the Books of Philosophers, these individuals’ practises became widespread among the proponents of rhetoric among the Hanafi Maatooreediyyah and the Ash-ariyyah Kullaabiyyah, and as a result, they were affected by the creed of grave worship. These individuals, such as Taftaazaanee Al-Hanafi (a Philosopher of the Maatooreediyyah and Grave Worshippers) and Jurjaanee Al-Hanafi (a caller to superstition), became proponents of both grave worship and the Jahmiyyah creed at the same time”.

To understand the harm Ed intends for the Ummah, pay special attention to Shaikh Shamsuddeen’s following statement: “The books of Greek philosophy that contained the ideas of grave and idol worship were translated into Arabic, and then many people who identified as Muslims spent their time with these books. These people included Al-Faraabee, Ibn Sina Al-Hanafi, Naseer At-Toosee, a proponent of shirk and disbelief, as well as others who played religious tricks on Islam, much like Paul did with Christianity. They were influenced by Greek Philosophers’ ideas, such as the creed of grave worship, and through Greek Philosophy they became advocates of grave worship”. [End of quote]

Indeed, Al-Farabi and Ibn Sina were among those who attempted to manage Islam and its believers through deception, but they were unsuccessful, much as Paul was successful in manipulating Christianity through deception. Ed, however, praises them, uses sophistry, flattery, and deception to draw attention to their destructive paths, and then tries to belittle the upright scholars of the Ummah who issue upright Fataaawa against the poison and bidah of philosophy.

Regarding the Raafidah heretics, the so-called Ayatollahs Ed Husain mentioned, they inherited their bidah from the Minaafiq Abdullah Ibn Sabah, whereas Ed Husain inherited his bidah from the heretical philosophers he exalts. As for the upright scholars of Ahlus Sunnah – the upright scholars of Saudi Arabia, such as the likes of Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Fawzaan, Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Madkhalee, Al-Allaamah Abdul Muhsin Al-Abbaad, Al-Allaamah Saaleh Al-Luhaydaan, Al-Allaamah Ubaid Al-Jaabiriy and other upright scholars of the Sunnah, they follow the footsteps of the pious predecessors in their stance against philosophy. Imam Ash-Shaafi’ee [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “Theological rhetoric is tantamount to ignorance”. Imaam Abu Yusuf [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “Theological rhetoric is ignorance and to be ignorant of it is knowledge”. (5)

Yoonus Ibn Abdil A’laa [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “I heard Ash-Shaafi’ee say, ‘It is better for a man to be put to trial with everything that Allah has forbidden besides Shirk than to look into (or engage in) theological rhetoric because I have come across affairs from the proponents of theological rhetoric that I never thought I would come across'”. (6)

Indeed, Imaam Ash-Shafi’ee’s above remark reveals yet another truth about Ed. He moved to another bidah after abandoning his previous misguided sect, Hizb Tahreer, till he became a supporter of heretical philosophers.

Imaam Ahmad [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “I am not a proponent of theological rhetoric, nor do I see it in anything. (I only recognise) that which is found in Allah’s Book or in the Sunnah of His Messenger.” (7) He also said, “Do not sit with the proponents of theological rhetoric even if they defend the Sunnah”. (8)

When a man asked Qaasim Bin As-Sallam [may Allah have mercy on him] about theological rhetoric, he said, “Indeed, your Lord has guided you to the path of uprightness and truth. Allah [The Exalted] said:

فَإِن تَنَـٰزَعۡتُمۡ فِى شَىۡءٍ۬ فَرُدُّوهُ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ وَٱلرَّسُولِ إِن كُنتُمۡ تُؤۡمِنُونَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلۡيَوۡمِ ٱلۡأَخِرِ‌ۚ ذَٲلِكَ خَيۡرٌ۬ وَأَحۡسَنُ تَأۡوِيلاً

(And) if you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messenger, if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination]. [Surah An-Nisaa. Aayah 59]

Do you not have enough of what your Lord has guided you to regarding His Speech and the Sunnah of His Prophet so that you do not revert to your opinion and thus get destroyed? Indeed, your Lord has forbidden you from speaking (i.e. speculating) about His Essence and Attributes other than what He has revealed to you”. (9)

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadee Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] said: “Theological rhetoric is a corrupt field of knowledge, and the pious predecessors unanimously agreed that studying it is forbidden because of the misguidance and evil outcomes in it. Shaikhul Islam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, ‘Neither does a dimwit benefit from it nor is an intelligent person in need of it’. An intelligent person does not require it since such people are intelligent in their inherent disposition and intelligence, and a dimwit does not benefit from it. Even if a person studied all the books of theological rhetoric, they would not gain anything from it. Shaikh Al-Albaani [may Allah have mercy on him] used to debate with proponents of theological rhetoric and they used to be like children in his presence, however, he never studied theological rhetoric. Instead, Allaah gave him (sound) speech and [Shariah] knowledge, and there is no evidence more convincing than the evidence of the Kitaab (i.e., the Qur’an) and the (authentic) Sunnah. The proponents of theological rhetoric are constantly vanquished. By Allaah, no matter how much they (use) theological speech or how strong their theological rhetoric is, they are overwhelmed by the presence of the methodology of the Pious Predecessors (which is) predicated on the Book [i.e. the Qur’aan] and the (authentic) Sunnah”. (10)

By praising the early Arabian believers and denouncing their adversaries, the Raafidah Shiites, Ed attempted to divert attention from his misguided pursuit of theological rhetoric in the name of Islam and gain some support from the early Arabian believers’ real allies. However, his concealed flattery and theological hyperbole were unveiled. Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan [may Allah preserve him] stated, “(The callers to evil) do not say to the people, ‘Come to the fire!!’ (Instead), they say, ‘Come to Paradise, these are the deeds of the Paradise people, this is good, this is development, this is rectification, this is and this is….’ and they make it more appealing to the people. As a result, Muslims must exercise caution toward these individuals. They have grown in number in this era, and only Allah knows if they will grow in the future. They may be aided with tools (of misguidance) that the earlier callers to misguidance did not have and are given solid backing through such (means), and this misguidance will quickly reach the masses. The proposal of the seducer and falsifier will be ornamented and made to appear like something good to the people in any location, despite the fact that it is evil. This is the pinnacle of temptation”. (11)

Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allah preserve him] stated: “Truth adherents must exercise patience and strengthen their commitment to this religion of truth. When desires become rife, it becomes necessary to increase familiarising (oneself) with the truth and adhere to it, as the Messenger said: ‘The one who lives long amongst you will see a lot of differences, so what is obligated to you is that you follow my Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided khulafaa. Bite on it with your molar teeth (ie. firmly adhere to it) and beware of newly invented matters [in religion, i.e. innovated beliefs and acts of worship), since every newly invented matter (in religion) is a bidah, and every bidah is misguidance'”. (12)

[6] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Abu Ad-Dardaa [may Allah be pleased with him] reported: I heard Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] say, “Whoever treads a path due to which he seeks knowledge, Allah will make him tread one of the paths towards Paradise. And the angels lower their wings out of contentment for the seeker of knowledge. And verily all those in the heavens and in the earth, even the fish in the depths of the sea ask forgiveness for the scholar. And verily, the virtue of the scholar over the worshipper is like the virtue of the full moon (of the 13th, 14th and 15th of the month) over all of the stars. Indeed, the scholars are the inheritors of the prophets because the prophets do not leave behind a dinar or a dirham as inheritance, but rather, they leave behind knowledge. So whoever takes hold of it, has acquired a large share”. (1)

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, “Verily, Allah does not take away knowledge by snatching it from the people, but He takes it away by death of the (upright) religious scholars till none of the scholars remains alive. Then the people will take ignorant ones as their leaders, who, when asked to deliver religious verdicts, will issue them without knowledge, the result being that they will go astray and will lead others astray”. (2)

Al-Haafidh Al-Qurtubiy [may Allah have mercy upon him] stated in Al-Mufhim, “This text (demonstrates) that the disappearance of knowledge will occur not through its removal from the hearts of the people, but rather through the death of the scholars. (then) the ignoramuses will remain- those who will take the place of the scholars in the (field) of judgements and teaching. They will teach and pass judgement based on their ignorance, causing ignorance to spread and become evident”. So, if the authentic Sunni knowledge is taken away, acting on it is also taken away, isn’t it?! When ignorance manifests, acting upon it becomes manifest; so, both knowledge and acting upon (Knowledge) will disappear, ignorance will manifest, and acting upon (ignorance) will become prevalent, as Al-Haafidh Al-Qurtubi [may Allah have mercy upon him] clarified in Al-Mufhim. (3)

First, this demonstrates the great station of sound Prophetic knowledge and its possessors; however, Ed desperately sought to elevate the status of a so-called Noble Peace Prize winner while demeaning Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan, one of the Senior erudite scholars of this Ummah in our era, out of a desire for recognition. Indeed, regarding some of the evil outcomes of seeking leadership, recognition, and fame, Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “This pursuit of leadership results in corruption, which none other than Allah can describe, including rebellion, envy, transgression, enmity, oppression, trials, being ardent in self-defense at the expense of violating the rights of Allah, exalting those who are despised by Allah, and demeaning those who are honoured by Allah”. (4)

This is precisely what Ed did when he displayed his reprehensible ignorance, unleashed his slanders against one of the noble elder Salafi scholars of the Ummah, and speculated on the topic of slavery in Islam while desperately trying to elevate the status of a so-called noble peace prize winner based on falsehood, flattery, and a desire to spread the false information that he considered knowledge – an attempt to elevate the inhabitants of the transient Dunyah and degrade the callers to the authentic Sunnah. (refer to post 5 of this series)

We ask Allah

O Allah! Rectify my religion for me, which is the safeguard of my affairs; rectify my worldly [affairs], wherein is my livelihood; and rectify my Afterlife to which is my return, and make life for me [as a means of] increase in every good and make death for me as a rest from every evil. [5] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُفَصِّلُ الْآيَاتِ وَلِتَسْتَبِينَ سَبِيلُ الْمُجْرِمِينَ

And thus do We explain the signs (to you O Muḥammad) in detail, and so that the way of the criminals may become evident (to you). [Surah Al-An’aam. Ayah 55]

After speaking about the Prophet’s companions and their in-depth knowledge of truth and falsehood, Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim [may Allah have mercy upon him] added: “Among those who succeeded the Prophet’s companions are those who are raised in Islam but do not know what opposes it. As a result, some of the details of the believers’ path and that of the criminals (i.e. the unbelievers) are perplexing to him because confusion occurs as a result of a lack of understanding about both paths or one of them, as Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab [may Allah be pleased with him] stated, ‘The bonds of Islam will be undone one after the other when a people are raised in Islam but do not know what pre-Islamic ignorance is’. And there’s the person who isn’t familiar with the criminals’ path and hasn’t had it clarified for him, or he has uncertainties and hence thinks that some of their practices (beliefs, methodologies, etc) are part of the practises of believers. This has occurred in this Ummah in many matters of creed, knowledge, and deeds concerning the path of the criminals, disbelievers, and enemies of the Messengers, that was brought into the path of the believers by one who does not know the (detailed distinction between) the path of the believers and the path of the criminals. [An Excerpt from ‘Al-Fawaa’d pages 167-180. Slightly paraphrased]

First, the above insightful statement by Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim reveals an affair concerning Ed Husain because, having been previously shackled by the Kharijite methodology of Hizb Tahreer and now under the shackles of philosophy, sophistry, and rhetoric, he failed to differentiate between the facts that distinguished slavery in Islam from other paths, as well as what Islam requires as opposed to individual violations of its commands and prohibitions. In a piece for the independent newspaper, Ed wrote in October 2011: “For the Nobel Prize-winning novelist Wole Soyinka, the unwillingness to confront Arab racism is rooted in the role of Arabs in the slave trade. “Arabs and Islam are guilty of the cultural and spiritual savaging of the Continent,” he writes. The Ethiopian academic Mekuria Bulcha estimates that Arab traders sold 17 million Africans to the Middle East and Asia between the sixth and twentieth centuries. Yet, there is an almost total reluctance on the part of Arab intellectuals to examine their central role in slavery, past or present. Any attempt to confront persistent Arab racism is shouted down by appeals to Arab/African solidarity against the neo-colonialist West, a sentiment that seldom moves beyond slogans. Sheikh Saleh Al-Fawzan, a member of the senior council of Wahhabi clerics responsible for writing Saudi school textbooks, states: “Slavery is part of Islam. Slavery is part of jihad and jihad will remain as long as there is Islam. It has not been abolished”. [End of quote]

Indeed, Ed is exactly what Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim stated, “Among those who succeeded the Prophet’s companions are those who were raised in Islam but do not know what opposes it. As a result, some of the details of the believers’ path and that of the criminals (i.e. the unbelievers) were perplexing to him because confusion occurs as a result of a lack of understanding about both paths or one of them, as Umar Ibn Al-Khattaab [may Allah be pleased with him] stated, “The bonds of Islam will be undone one after the other when a people who grow up in Islam but do not know what pre-Islamic ignorance is”. What Ed [may Allah guide him] failed to explain about slavery, Shaikh Abu Khadeejah [may Allah preserve him] has beautifully detailed and delineated on these two links: https://video.link/w/Qbaub https://video.link/w/lUZtb

Indeed, after hearing the above clarification from Shaikh Abu Khadeejah, one realises the dishonesty and ignorance of Ed Husain and those of his ilk among the pretenders in this subject matter.

Second, Ed’s description of Al-Allaamah Saalih Al-Fawzaan [may Allah preserve him] as “a member of the senior council of Wahhabi clerics” demonstrates another affair regarding his ignorance. See the website regarding the myth surrounding the name “Wahhaabi” by Shaikh Abu Iyaad [may Allah preserve him] http://www.wahhabis.com/authors/Abu.Iyaad.cfm

Indeed, given that Ed Husain’s path is founded upon bidah, philosophy, sophistry, rhetoric, and the flattery of secularists, it is not surprising that he attempted to unjustly disparage one of the upright scholars of our time. Imam Ibn Asaakir [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “Know O, my brother! May Allaah grant us and you His Pleasure and make us from those who have awe and fear of Him as He should be feared. Indeed, the flesh of the scholars is poisonous (i.e. backbiting them) and Allaah’s way of disclosing the hidden affairs of those who diminish their worth is well known”. [Tabyeen Kadhib Al-Muftaree Fee Maa Nusiba Ilal-Imaam Abil Hasan Al-Ash’aree: page 29]

Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, “All praise and thanks be to Allah – Who, in every era and interval between the Prophets- raises a group from the people of Knowledge, who call the misguided to guidance, patiently bearing ill-treatment and harm. With the Book of Allah, they give life to the dead [i.e. hearts killed by misguidance, etc] and through Allah’s Light [i.e. guidance] they give sight [i.e. guidance] to the blind. How many a person killed by Iblees [i.e. misguided] have they revived?! How many deviated people and wandering have they guided?! How beautiful their effect has been on the people and how vile people have been towards them! They expel from the Book of Allaah the alterations of those going beyond bounds, the false claims of the liars, and the false interpretations of the ignorant ones – those who uphold the banner of Bidah and unleash trials and discord, differing about the Book [i.e. The Qur’aan], opposing the Book and agree upon opposing the Book. They speak about Allaah and His Book without knowledge, argue about what is ambiguous in the Book, and deceive the ignorant masses with such ambiguities. We seek refuge in Allah from the trials of the misguided ones”. [Ar-Radd ‘alal-Jahmiyyah. page 2]

[4] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allaah [The Most High] said:

لَا تَحْسَبَنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ يَفْرَحُونَ بِمَآ أَتَوا۟ وَّيُحِبُّونَ أَن يُحْمَدُوا۟ بِمَا لَمْ يَفْعَلُوا۟ فَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّهُم بِمَفَازَةٍ مِّنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

Think not that those who rejoice in what they have done (or brought about), and love to be praised for what they have not done,- think not you that they are rescued from the torment, and for them is a painful torment. [Surah Al-Imran. Ayah 188]

Imaam As-Sadi [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “They want to be commended for what they haven’t done and what they haven’t said, so they combine between evil conduct and its utterance and revel in it. And they love being applauded for something they haven’t done”. (1)

Ed Husain said, ”Free speech is not a Western concept: it is a universal craving of the human soul”. [End of quote]

True, everyone would want to be able to talk, but our Lord warned us about the perils and terrible consequences of an unbridled soul and tongue. Ed desperately attempted to pervert an authentic hadith in order to satisfy his burning desire to advance freedom of speech outside the purview of Shariah, a freedom of expression that would allow him to spread his dubious beliefs in the name of Islam. However, before we cite the hadith that Ed tried to twist for his own purposes, it’s important to note that he is guilty of double standards because he uses freedom of speech to spread his errors while criticising the members of his former group, Hizb Tahreer, when they do the same. Allaah [The Exalted] said:

أَتَأۡمُرُونَ ٱلنَّاسَ بِٱلۡبِرِّ وَتَنسَوۡنَ أَنفُسَكُمۡ وَأَنتُمۡ تَتۡلُونَ ٱلۡكِتَـٰبَ‌ۚ أَفَلَا تَعۡقِلُونَ

Enjoin you Al-Birr (piety and righteousness and each and every act of obedience to Allah) on the people and you forget (to practise it) yourselves, while you recite the Scripture! Have you then no sense?] [Surah Al-Baqarah. Aayah 44]

While desperately seeking to misinterpret the hadith in order to forward his dishonest pursuit of free speech, Ed said: “Muslim civilisations, too, were once confident in this freedom. The Prophet’s wife, Ayesha, would say to him ‘How convenient that your God reveals verses that satisfy your desires.’ Nasredin Hodja, a Muslim satirist entertained generations of people with his books of jokes and caricatures. For centuries, the Sufis mocked orthodox believers and their rituals. Blessed was blasphemy. We Muslims again need to learn to joke, to laugh more and accept that in the West, since the times of the ancient Greeks, mockery and theatre have been the norm. Islamists cannot and must not destroy this inheritance”. [End of quote]

Observations

“Muslim civilisations, too, were once confident in this freedom. The Prophet’s wife, Ayesha, would say to him ‘How convenient that your God reveals verses that satisfy your desires'”.

Following is the hadeeth from which Ed quoted in order to support his perverse defence of corrupt free speech: Ed quoted the hadith as follows: “Aa’Isha [may Allaah be pleased with her] said to the Prophet, ‘How convenient that your God reveals verses that satisfy your desires'”.  Arabic text as follows: [ما أرى ربك إلا يسارع في هواك – I feel that your Lord hastens in fulfilling your desires]. [Sahih Al-Bukhari. Number 4788]

First of all, depending on the context, the word “Hawaa – desire” can be used to describe behaviour that is commendable or reproachable. Here is an illustration of the word used as a reprimand in Allah’s statement:

وَمَنْ أَضَلُّ مِمَّنِ اتَّبَعَ هَوَاهُ بِغَيْرِ هُدًى مِنَ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ

And who is more astray than one who follows his desire without guidance from Allah? Indeed, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people. [Surah Al-Qasas. Ayah 50]

The word “Hawaa” (desires) is given a blameworthy meaning in the above verse because it is associated with the person who follows his desires without guidance from Allah.

Second, the following text provides an illustration of the word’s commendable meaning: After the battle of Badr, the Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] consulted both AbuBakr and Umar [may Allah be pleased with them] regarding the prisoners of war, so Umar suggested that they should be executed, but Abu Bakr suggested that they should be set free after a ransom is taken on their behalf. Umar said:

[ فَهَوِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَا قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَلَمْ يَهْوَ مَا قُلْتُ – Allaah’s Messenger هَوِيَ – (with a Kasra on the letter Waw; meaning, the Prophet loved, approved Abu Bakr’s view and held it to be the best thing to do)] (2), and did not approve (or incline towards what I said). Therefore, “Hawaa” is used in a commendable manner in this hadeeth because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) never tends to anything unworthy of praise.

As for the meaning of the hadeeth in Al-Bukhaari Number 4788 [ما أرى ربك إلا يسارع في هواك – I feel that your Lord hastens in fulfilling your wishes and desires], Imaam An-Nawawi [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said that this hadith means: “Your Lord has made things easy for you and given you a lot of leeway in your affairs”. (3) Al-Haafidh Ibn Hajr [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said that this hadith means: “Without delay, Allah fulfils what you want and reveals what you love and choose”. (4)

And moreover, Allaah [The Exalted] said:

وَٱلنَّجۡمِ إِذَا هَوَىٰ
مَا ضَلَّ صَاحِبُكُمۡ وَمَا غَوَىٰ
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلۡهَوَىٰٓ
إِنۡ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحۡىٌ۬ يُوحَىٰ

By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). Your companion (Muhammad) has neither gone astray nor has erred. Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. [Surah An-Najm. Ayaat 1-4]

Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: “Allah [The Exalted] revealed that Muhammad [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] is neither misguided nor ignorant, neither is he astray nor does he follow his desires, nor does he speak according to his desires but rather according to the revelation that has been sent down”. (5)

There is no ambiguity, speculation, or guesswork because this is the hadeeth’s clear meaning. The hadith’s use of the word “Hawaa” refers to an inclination towards something honourable rather than a desire for something that is blameworthy. But Ed fervently used this hadith to promote satire and corrupt free speech. Al-Allaamah Saalih Al Fawzaan cautioned us against this attitude, saying, “Transmitting forged and false reports while attributing them to the Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] is not permitted. This is due to the fact that many misguided people and followers of desires fabricate narrations, use them as evidence, and declare them authentic when they line up with their desires. As for when the authentic narrations conflict with their wishes, they either deny them or alter and explain them (in a way different from what is meant by) correct meanings. This is the situation of the proponents of misguidance; they look for fabricated and false narrations, offer them to the people, and use them as evidence if it supports their desires. Similarly, one of the traits of a hypocrite is that he lies when he speaks, so refrain from speaking to the people unless you are truthful, and avoid using the ahaadeeth excessively in situations where there is no benefit out of fear that you would start telling lies. The Messenger [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said, ‘It is enough lying for a man to speak of everything that he hears'”. (6)

Then Ed Husain stated: “Nasredin Hodja, a Muslim satirist entertained generations of people with his books of jokes and caricatures.

Whatever a person does to entertain the public, it cannot contradict the divine revelation found in the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah. A joke is acceptable as long as it does not make fun of the religion or an authentic act of worship carried out by a Muslim. That’s because a joke of this nature amounts to major disbelief.

If you ask them (about this), they declare: “We were only talking idly and joking.” Say: “Was it at Allah, and His Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) and His Messenger that you were mocking?” Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after you had believed. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayah 65]

Imam Muhammad Ibn Saaleh Al-Uthaymeen [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said: “The affairs related to Divine Lordship, Prophethood, Revelation, and the religion are sacred and are to be venerated. It is impermissible to disrespect them, either by mocking them to make others laugh or to make fun of them. If anyone does that, he is an unbeliever because this shows his disrespect towards Allaah and His Messengers, the Books, and Divine Laws. Whoever does this must repent to Allaah because it is a type of hypocrisy. Therefore, the person must repent to Allaah, seek forgiveness, change his behaviour, nurture fear of Allaah [in his heart], venerate Allaah, and have a love for Allaah in his heart”.  (7)

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Woe to the one who speaks to make people laugh and lies, woe to him, woe to him”. (8)

The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “A man may say something to make his companions laugh, and he will fall into Hell as far as the Pleiades because of it”. (9)

As for Ed Husain’s statement,  “Blessed was blasphemy”. The word blessed used in this context can either mean pleasure or relief as a welcome contrast to what one has previously experienced, or it is used in mild expressions of annoyance or exasperation – emphasizing that you are annoyed about something. Indeed, regardless of the meaning intended by Ed Husain, he is reminded that the Muslim does not utilise freedom of speech to utter disbelief, sin, or transgression.

As for Ed Husain’s statement: “We Muslims again need to learn to joke, to laugh more and accept that in the West, since the times of the ancient Greeks,  and mockery and theatre have been the norm”. [End of quote]

Indeed, because Allah’s Messenger is the only person who has lived a faultless life in all respects, a sensible Muslim makes an effort to emulate his example. We make jokes and laugh in accordance with the divine revelation, and we pay no attention to Ed Husain’s absurd recommendations. If satire was common, then it would also be common among the Prophets of Allah and their upright followers. We are commanded to follow the upright path rather than that taken by terrorists like ISIS or those who have engaged in excessive neglect like Ed Husain. Sufyan Ibn Uyaynah [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: “Indeed, the Messenger is the highest criterion (amongst humans and Jinn), and all affairs are given to him (i.e. for judgment and judged) based on his manners, way, and guidance; so, whatever agrees with this is truth, and whatever disagrees is falsehood”. [3] Fighting extremism with extreme negligence! Ed Husain’s Distractive Ruse

In The Name of Allah, The Most Merciful, The Bestower of Mercy.

Allah [The Exalted] stated about the hypocrites:

The hypocrites, men, and women, are from one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Munkar (i.e. disbelief and polytheism of all kinds and all that Islam has forbidden), and forbid (people) from Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do), and they close their hands [from giving (spending in Allah’s Cause) alms, etc.]. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them. Verily, the hypocrites are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient to Allah). Allah has promised the hypocrites; men and women, and the disbelievers, the Fire of Hell, therein shall they abide. It will suffice them. Allah has cursed them and for them is the lasting torment. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayaat 67-68]

Allah [The Exalted] stated about the believers:

The believers, men, and women are Auliya’ (helpers, supporters, friends, protectors) of one another, they enjoin (on the people) Al-Ma’ruf (i.e. Islamic Monotheism and all that Islam orders one to do), and forbid (people) from Al-Munkar (i.e. polytheism and disbelief of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); they perform As-Salat (Iqamat-as-Salat) and give the Zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have His Mercy on them. Surely Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise. Allah has promised to the believers -men and women, – Gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein forever, and beautiful mansions in Gardens of ‘Adn (Eden Paradise). But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of Allah. That is the supreme success. [Surah At-Tawbah. Aayaat 71-72]

Ed Husain stated, “The only people to blame for rape are rapists. A woman should be allowed to walk naked if she chooses”. Indeed, Ed Husain is bereft of the robust and beautiful clarification passed down from the upright and devout leaders of the Ummah, rather, he has disregarded the Messenger’s hadith by openly condoning evil. The Prophet [peace and blessings of Allah be upon him] said: “Verily, among the statements people obtained from the Prophets, is that: If you feel no shame, do as you wish”. [Ṣaḥeeh Al-Bukhaaree 3483]

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-Uthaymeen [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: The meaning of the Prophet’s statement, “If you have no shame, then do as you please” has two interpretations: one of them is that you shouldn’t do anything—whether it has to do with Shariah or custom —if it will make you feel ashamed of yourself. If you want to carry out a deed, consider whether you would be ashamed of it in light of Shariah or custom, (I) then don’t do it. If it is something you don’t feel ashamed of in light of Shariah or custom, then do it. The second interpretation is that a man without shame will do whatever he wants and doesn’t give a damn. As a result, you can find a person without shame doing things that other people blame him for, and he doesn’t give a damn about other people blaming him because he has no sense of shame. These two interpretations are both correct. [paraphrased] (1)

Unquestionably, no matter how nude a woman is, a man can never justify raping her; however, publicly supporting the idea that a woman should be permitted to be nude is a crime in the Sight of Allah. Indeed, we do have the ability to openly declare that Islam condemns it or, at the very least, to despise it in our hearts, despite the fact that none of us has the power to put an end to this evil. However, Ed Husain openly declares that a woman should be permitted to be naked. Al-Allaamah Rabee Bin Haadi Al-Mad’khali [may Allaah preserve him] said, “It has been reported in an authentic hadeeth -in Saheeh Al Bukhaari and Saheeh Muslim- that ‘A man will be brought on the Day of Resurrection and thrown into the Fire, then his intestines will spill forth in the Fire and he will go around it as a donkey goes around a millstone. The people of Hell will gather around him and will say: O So and so! What is the matter with you; did you not use to enjoin good and forbid evil? He will say: Yes, I used to enjoin good, but did not do it; and I used to forbid evil and did it [i.e. commit the evil I used to forbid’. [Al-Bukhaari 3267 & Muslim 2989]

Indeed, there might be someone worse than this man because he (i.e. the person worse than the man mentioned in this Hadeeth) encourages evil and forbids good, so what would be his situation?! (1.1)

Indeed, the former Hizb Tahreer zealot Ed Husain has transformed into a goon for the secularists to the point where he has come to endorse egregious evil in this modesty-related affair. Ed is also reminded that Allah’s Messenger [peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him] said, “Some women are clothed but naked, inclining to evil and seducing with it. They will not enter Paradise, nor smell its fragrance, even though it can be found from a distance of five hundred years of travel”. (2)

Imaam Muhammad Ibn Saalih Al-Uthaymeen [may Allah have mercy upon him] said, This has been explained to mean that they will wear short clothes that don’t cover the areas of the body one is required to cover [i.e., a woman’s complete body is to be covered aside from the face and hands]. It has been explained that this means they would dress in revealing attire that allows others to glimpse the woman’s skin. And it has been explained that it means they will wear tight clothes that cover the body but reveals the parts that lead to temptation through women. (3)

In reference to the statement, “They will not enter Paradise, nor smell its fragrance, even though it can be found from a distance of five hundred years of travel”, Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allaah have mercy upon him] said, “The sinners [i.e. those who die whilst committing sins lesser than Shirk] are under the will of Allaah. If Allah so wishes, He may immediately punish them, pardon them, or enters them into hell for some time and paradise thereafter, just as Allaah said:

إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَغْفِرُ أَن يُشْرَكَ بِهِۦ وَيَغْفِرُ مَا دُونَ ذَٰلِكَ لِمَن يَشَآءُ

Indeed, Allāh does not forgive that partners are set up for Him (and worshipped alongside Him, the gravest of sins) but He forgives whatever is less than that of (all types of sin) for whomever He wills. (4)

Footnote I: Customs: Imaam Abdul Azeez Bin Baaz [may Allah have mercy upon him] said: Every Muslim has a duty to not rely on custom but rather to bring their actions for judgment in accordance with the pure Shariah. Accordingly, whatever the Shariah affirms is lawful, and everything it does not affirm is forbidden. People’s customs are not a valid way to judge if something is lawful (in the Sight of Allah). Whatever Allah and His Messenger made permissible is permissible, and whatever they forbid, then it is obligatory to abandon it even if it is a common practise among the people. All the customs of the people in their countries or tribes must be brought before Allah’s Book and His Messenger’s Sunnah for judgement. [Majmoo Al-Fataawas 6/510]
